Hey guys, as few of you may know, I got a job in Jacksonville and have since been unbelievably bored around here.  Anyone in the area that wants to get together for some shooting sports or any other active activity that young adults (I am 22) would enjoy.  All week I work my 40 hours plus, and on the weekends I just fucking play video games.  It is not the same as when I was in Orlando at UCF because there were 60,000 young adults with similar interests in my immediate area.

So holler at me via email if you are in Jacksonville and aren't a hermit.  I would like to get more involved with shit going around here, but don't really know where to start.  I have a rifle, pistol, xbox, two 12in subs in my mustang and a nice paycheck every 2 weeks.  Lets make something happen people.

Jax is actually full of a ton of young people as well, you just have to go find them.  UNF is close by, and JU isn't too far.  I would say most of them inhabit the beaches area on the weekend, just take Beach Blvd. east til you can only go left or right.

Yes I have been around the campus and the St. Johns Center but those types of scenes are better had with a group of people and not solo.  That bar Whiskey River looks fire.  Seems like the beaches would be full of libtards, and I am of the opposite mindset.  Though if they are cute I can understand the stupidity and it makes it okay for the time being.

I think I may also just start going to Gun Gallery all the time and making report with the staff and get friends with them.  I literally live 2 minutes from them, only problem is I need to buy ammo I have none for the range, just SD.  Though I guess I can hit up the Walmart, should be one close by.

Any good outdoor ranges nearby?

No.

Your best bets are in St. Augustine, Bradford, or Lake City.

If you're not having fun, you just aren't trying hard enough.  Go hang out at the beach, meet ditzy college chicks, etc...etc...etc...

Yeah, the FOP range in St. Augustine is the best practical range around.

As for stuff to do––beach is pretty much the best you'll find.  I'm almost always the DD in my little group of friends, and when we had the time for the beach bars, the trifecta was Ritz, Bricks (probably spelled with a "z"), and Fionn MacCool's.

+1 for St. Augustine.

Oh, and welcome to our beloved city of Jacksonville!

I'm 20 and go to UNF and let me tell you, there are things to do you just have to find them. A lot of them are, I'd say, "local spots". But Gun Gallery is a good place to start. There are some good guys up there (Rob, Alan,etc...) and put on the FDCC shoots once a month that I plan on starting to go to once I get the upper for my AR built. You should look in to that... I believe it takes place on the third sunday of every month.

Where do you work?

There is this guy I know who lives in around Jacksonville...

They call him Mr SLUG-O / aka Dana Leon fish master, semper fi alligator wrestler, truck stuck in mud MARINE...

He could and will most likey assist you with becoming un-bored...    You could be useful to him as a back-up trolling motor or boat anchor...

Also the FDCC matches and shooting events held around your area...    Someone beat me to it I see...

Hunting, Fishing, Paintball and Team Sports all around your area...

Put another one down for FDCC.  It's the last Sunday of the month but you'd be surprised how many other competitions go on around the Northeast Florida area.  Me and a comrade are heading to one tomorrow morning in St. Augustine.  Hit me with a PM and I can fill you in on details.  It's more fun than you've probably had in a while and it's also a great way to meet some local dudes who are into some of the same things you are.  Congrats on landing a job, by the way.

Not many college grads are picking something up that easily just out of school, especially in this climate.

P.S. I've got an Xbox as well and spend some time at home ruining lives on Modern Warfare 2.  If you play it let me know and I'll load you on my list and I'll make you angry.

+1 Gateway is full of old fuds and nazis. I once had the entire line to myself, and a RO came up and told me to "Slow it down some" while shooting a .22 rifle because I was firing one bullet every 1.5 seconds.

We should have a Jacksonville shoot/get together some time.

+1 on FOP, flexible and not too far away, i drive up from Orlando sometimes just to meet up with my buddies that are members there.

There are also a strip of bars downtown that aren't too bad, when you get tired of doing the beach thing, as well as 5 Points/Riverside area, although I haven't been there in years.

Riverside/Five Points is still pretty good (I live in Riverside).  I've always been a big fan of O'Brothers.  Decent bars in San Marco, too.  And Kickbacks on King Street.

ETA: Also, OP, you might want to look at www.kickball.com.  The season is in play right now, but spring is coming quickly.  You'll meet a whole lot of people and have a really good time (both on the field and at the bar after the games).

Whatever.  He was asking so I included them.  Let me see they are being built up around them by subdivisions and let me see.  An airport down range.  Just because you mall ninja's want to show off all your latest stuff that is pretty unrealistic and they won't let you shoot at what you want.  Oh well so be.

Thanks I will check all of those out.  I got an email from a member of the Ancient City range, you guys haven't mentioned that but from what he said in the email sounds like the best one of them all.

I think I will definitely be hitting up the FDCC matches and hopefully any other ones nearby.  My rifle is still lacking some essentials and I need more ammo, but that will have to wait until my first couple of paychecks start rollin' in.

Thank you, and yes this climate is quite toxic right now.

Oh, I shit on kids on MW2, when we run it with a full party its hilarious.

Damn, Gainesville is where I go to party, many of my friends are still in college there and I have a couch on permanent reserve for whenever I want to roll through.

I live behind Gateway off of Old Middleburg Road.  I don't go there.  So full of potential, but the reality is that the folks who run it are not amenable to my preferred style of shooting nor my preferred style of rifle.    Doesn't make me or anyone else a mall ninja.  Their private range, their rules, and I am okay with that.  Your response, however, is fairly condescending.  If I wanted a condescending attitude towards the gear I have and the way I shoot, I would have gone  to Gateway.

Welcome to Jax.  I'm heading to Gateway in the morning, early, to avoid all those "daily shooter" punks with guns.     Plus, its cooler in the morning.  I have never had a problem with the RO's... not with the EBR, pistols, or bolt rifles.
I have witnessed totally uncool, stupid-ass antics from the "daily shooters" though.  And, that is what I love about America.  You can be near totally fucking retarded and take a gun out there and shoot, although you have to pass a test and pay the fee.  So if you can handle that, you are free to shoot.  However, if you screw up, I hope you do not last long.  Actually, I haven't seen all that many tard punk shooters... but the ones that show, seem to make up for the ones that didn't.
I perform multiple rapid-fire mag dumps with my pistols, shotgun and small caliber rifles.  No EBR mag dumping though...  UNFAIR!!! OH FUCK THE WORLD!!!  Yes, there is rapid fire allowed on the back ranges, and it is fun.  Fun for members and guests.  Oh, and its about a 10 minute drive.
Shoot where, when and as much as you can.

Stationed all over, but remember this from the Keys and Hawaii.  Bored people in the barracks... nothing to do.  I would suggest something like: deep sea fishing, beach fishing, hiking, surfing, fly RC stuff, Scuba diving, snorkeling, climbing, windsurfing, biking, body boards, sailing, jet skis, camping, water skiing and of course that all time favorite, shooting stuff.  My favorite response was:  I like to snow ski.

I think it is that I just moved here and compared to UCF, this UNF area I am near is like a ghost town.  How do you pass the time?  There are some decent shops around here though, but I am not a fan of spending money (other than for guns and gun accessories).

Yeah you cant compare UCF and UNF. UNF has less than half the students of UCF and most of those are commuter students. My daughter is at UCF and is busy 24/7 and my son is at UNF and all he does outside of school is work and play video games.

Come on down to the Ancient City Shooting range. I brought my cannon to the range with me Saturday and it was pretty freaking awesome. No projectiles, just lotsa noise and smoke.

Check out Wings n Wheels this Saturday, September 25th at Craig Airfield. (Atlantic and 9A)  It's free to the public and expecting 8k-15k people.
I'm pretty sure it's from 10-4.  I'm not sure if theres any air show involved or just static displays.
Motorcycles, Trucks, Cars, and Planes.
