Welcome to the area. I'm in Williston which is about 20-25 min away from Newberry (with my driving). Once you get settled in your more then welcome to check out the Fort White Gun Club with me. You will like Newberry, I use to live by the High school about 15 years ago.
Edited: forgot ya have pickett's Weaponry that is also located in Newberry. It's an ok shop, I like Hary Beckwiths (in Gainesville) a little bit better. Same owners.

Picketts is a good family owned gun shop.

I stopped in there last week on my way through, just to look around......nice shop. Asked about a piece for the 870 I keep in my truck. They had the part on the workbench, very slightly used, and installed it....NO CHARGE.

So I bought a spare mag for my Taurus OSS/DS .45

With all the Gainesville folks around we should think about a fall BBQ. It would be fun to break out the BBQ guns and meet some new folks!

Looks like everyone has it pretty well covered. Picketts is a good shop right in Newberry. Fort White has a nice Gun Club that's very inexpensive. There's a few other good shops around the area also.  I'm with Ebbtide, let's set up a fall Gainesville and surrounding areas BBQ.

P.S. The best advice I can give you is find a place a few miles west of Newberry to live. If you can get out of Alachua county and into Gilchrist, your taxes will be much less.

Another vote for Lake City.  When I attended UF my friends and I would frequently make the drive up there - only 45 min or so - and always had a great time.

If you haven't tried the onion rings, be sure to order yourself a foot of them next time.
