He went to sleep Tuesday morning and woke up next to God shortly after.

My brother called me and told me (I was in Alaska- where I work- at the time) and I flew back home Wednesday to be with my family. It wasn't unexpected as he had quite a few medical issues, but you're never ready for it.

Mike and I weren't as close as father and son- more like really good friends- but that doesn't ease the pain any.

When his medical problems began 8 years ago, he told me he wanted to make it to 70; if he could make it to that age, he felt that he had had a good run.

He was 70 years, 1 month and 4 days old when he died and he was with people who loved him. He had his good run.

He didn't want a funeral service ("circus", as he called them) and we honored that, but I felt he deserved a mention here in ARF-world.

He was my friend and I'll miss him.

Same here as well. At least he went out the way he wanted. Not very many people have that privilege.

I'm sorry to hear this. Loosing a family member is never easy... they leave a big hole where they touched your lives. Seems the closer the family, the larger the hole. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
