He went to sleep Tuesday morning and woke up next to God shortly after.
My brother called me and told me (I was in Alaska- where I work- at the time) and I flew back home Wednesday to be with my family. It wasn't unexpected as he had quite a few medical issues, but you're never ready for it. Mike and I weren't as close as father and son- more like really good friends- but that doesn't ease the pain any. When his medical problems began 8 years ago, he told me he wanted to make it to 70; if he could make it to that age, he felt that he had had a good run. He was 70 years, 1 month and 4 days old when he died and he was with people who loved him. He had his good run. He didn't want a funeral service ("circus", as he called them) and we honored that, but I felt he deserved a mention here in ARF-world. He was my friend and I'll miss him. |
