I'm looking at getting my CWL and there are 2 different options over the next couple of weeks.  The Southern Classic Gun and Knife Show is having a gunshow Jan 3/4 in Orlando.  From their Q&A section:
Q: How much does it cost? And can I get it all at the Show?
A: Yes, you get it all done which includes; The Class, Passport Photo, Notary, Fingerprint Tech & Range Fee for $98.00 Plus Live Scan Fingerprinting & Background Check For $42. A Total of $ 140.

Florida Gun and Knife shows is having a gunshow Dec 27/28 in Melbourne.  $45.00 Course Fee which includes Class and Range Time  (students are required to shoot one round with the instructor at the designated local gun range)
Total Course Fee $60.00 includes:
1. Photograph
2. Fingerprint card

Since time is relatively irrelavent since they are within a week of eachother, which would you go to?  Oh, I live in Melbourne, so the Melbourne show is obviously much more convenient.  Of course I've been to both shows and wasn't impressed by either so I'd only be going for the class.

I'm not familiar with the CWL courses taught at those shows, but in SE FL, the CWL courses taught at gun shows are a joke.  Firing one round to demonstrate "proficiency" is beyond ludicrous.

However, the one for $140 looks like it would save you a lot of time and hassle by doing everything in one place.

The show in Orlando will require you to also leave the show, travel to the local range, and shoot.

I would suggest taking it somewhere you will actually learn something, rather than filling a seat at an overcrowded show.

Both are good points.  Fortunately, I'm not new to firearms as I've been carrying a sidearm (M9 and P229) for work for 4 years now.  Besides additional training, do any private courses teach you anything different than the gunshow ones?

Gunshows merely "check the block".

if that's what your after then go for the "cheapest route" but understand this:  KNOWING THE LAW AND HOW IT APPLIES is just as important as knowing how to use the firearm itself.

There is definately a 'vacuum' out there for good CCW training.

Yes, http://www.cwlmiami.com/ 's course is longer and more in depth. The class calls for 50 rounds as well. I've been meaning to get some time to take this class myself.

Fireing one shot is a good way of failing people that cant handle it...when i took my course 2 people ran out of the range when they heard the gunshot needless to say they failed and im glad they wont be carrying. the course does exactly what it should ...teaches what you NEED to know. all other training comes from practice or further courses.

I would recommend going with him also. compared to some of the other courses his is structured better. I took my class with Charlie Berrane a while back (Charlies Armory) not at the gunshow but at... *gasp* ACE's.

All you need is to attach proof of firearms safety to your concealed weapons application. You do not NEED to take a specific so called Concealed Weapon or firearms class.

Hunter Safety, military ID, DD 214 etc...........

4.  Completion of any law enforcement firearms safety or training course or class offered for security guards, investigators, special deputies, or any division or subdivision of law enforcement or security enforcement;

If you're already a proficient shooter the gun show course is fine.  They will hit the basic points and do them minimum required by law.
