Are they legal to possess, carry and use by private citizen? *EDIT*: NOT THE FURRY KIND. LOL attac........ you funny guy |
I totally concur. I am ex-LEO, and still have a couple sets of cuffs ( from the good old days hty.gif ). The only time they will ever be used is if I catch a home invader in my house, and he is still alive ( by some miracle of God hail2.gif ), then I shall use them to secure the lucky SOB until our local LEO's arrive to take him into their custody. I would never use my cuffs outside of my home. I have a CWL and will use it to defend myself and my wife to get the slimeball either incapacitated or running like he11 !! In either case handcuffs will not be needed. |
Yeah. I'm reminded of a thread a while back, I think it was in the Carry Issues forum, where some guy was talking about cuffs and basically came out with "Well, if a guy comes into my house, I'll hold him at gunpoint, and tell him to cuff himself, or else." To which the general reply was "And what, pray tell, is the jury going to think when you tell them 'I had to show him Or Else'?" Dunno. That bit seemed more coherent in my head. It's 1:45AM. Anyways, I'd think you would want to be very careful with cuffs. Given that you didn't mention any usage in the OP, we can only assume. If you're using them for, erm... "Recreational Activities", you're fine. Make sure you warm them up first. If you're planning on carrying them as a supplement to a CCW, I'd be careful. If you're out in public, and you end up having to use your weapon, an anti-gun cop or DA might be inclined to use the fact that you had cuffs to paint you with the "Trying to be a cop" brush. Just my $.02

That is what I was thinking about. I was just thinking(know I shouldn't be thinking) that if say I am victim of attempted mugging or witness something to that effect, I know I have the right to defend "myself", or help in apprehending someone for a crime "I" witnessed, but could I be charged with false imprisonment or something to that effect for handcuffing the assailant? I also understand the whole "impersonation" thing, and how it might be misconstrued as such, which is the one thing stopping me from carrying them at this point. So for now I guess I will just keep them at home. Thanks for your help. |

WARNING: Don't even try it because it makes a nice note on the Probable Cause Affadavit for an impersonating charge. Another NO-NO is running around wearing a concealed weapons "BADGE" playing cop. The Sheriff's arrest someone in my area about once a month for playing cop. One clown rides around in a Crown Victoria with a laptop on a stand, talk about a role player that DUDE NEEDS HELP! |
