I plan on moving to FL pretty soon so I thought I might as well apply for the carry permit (even though my TX one is on the way). I went on the Division of Licensing website and requested an application. Since I've had less than great luck with ink fingerprints, I plan on getting electronic fingerprints done. The question I have is can I get fingerprinted at the Sheriff's office before my application gets to me in TX? I just found out I'm going to FL for personal reasons on short notice and am wondering if I can just get my fingerprinting done while I am there. Thanks for all your help. Brian |
| Somewhere on the site gives you a list of the places that have the electronic fingerprint machines. I know here in Miami, there is a few stations that have them. Last time I went to get finger printed, they were stealin' parts from the other machines to keep the one in the main office running for some reason. go figure. So call'em up before you make the trip to the station to get printed. |

From what I recall, no you can't get fingerprinted before your application arrives. In Tampa, I had to bring my application in, and the officer doing the electronic printing signed/filled out some info on my app, then made sure I had some tracking numbers to check on my app online. I think most everyone there for fingerprinting had their app with them.... |

The application you'll receive includes a fingerprint card, which you'll need to give to the tech who scans your prints. I had already filled in most of the info on the card by hand before I went for fingerprinting. The tech at the Tampa PD had my fingerprints printed on both the card that came with my application and a fresh one, so that I could have a card with the personal info printed instead of handwritten. She didn't ask for any other portion of my application. I submitted both cards when it came time to mail it. The best thing to do is to call the department where you're going to get fingerprinted and ask if they'll do it without the application. If they say you need the application first, call the gun shops in the area and see if they have any spare application packets on hand. They probably will if they teach CWP classes. |
