Clewiston > Florida

Anybody live in this area? My wife is considering accepting a travel nurse assignment there and wanted to get a heads up.

Hey there dude, I used to live down the road in Moore Haven, Glades co. I started my Law enforcement career there working as a D/S for Glades S/O. clewiston is somewhat quiet, a very large migrant population, smells like dog excrement when their burning cane( which is often),Roland Martins marina is there, you have access to all the rim canals and all the black bass you can catch, a decent county fair.....and most important of all Tactical Firearms Academy has their 1000yd precision rifle range in Ladeca,outside of town. They also have their AVOC, tactical training center there as well.

Thanks for the quick reply. Wife wants to know the social aspects. Food, attractions, etc.

I see that they have a 30 person full-time PD for 7,000 people! That's unheard of here. How's the crime, etc.

Would we be better off just figuring on heading east or west to the ocean when we have time off?

Clewiston is an old Florida town. Most of the local employment is from the sugar plant. As far as local entertainment goes, do y'all like bass fishing? As to the food, do y'all like bass fishing? I would to live there though if I was retired. There are quite a few retired folks living there because it is cheap living and the lake has good fishing (well, was but they are working on that) Did I ask you if you like bass fishing yet?

I live due west on the coast and it is a little over an hour or so drive.

I did mention a burgeoning immigrant populace, and there is not much other than catching uncle black bass and snook @ the spillway, I would definitely go to the atlantic coast for R&R (PSL,ft.Pierce,etc.) I went to the Police acad. in ft.myers(west coast) and let me tell you bro......fucking armpit central. Now that I think of it.....kinda like mini miami.

gunbuilder1969 is right about the east coast around Ft. Myers where I live. It has become an overcrowded Miami suburb and the Gulf is not that good for fishing anymore around here. Inshore flats fishing from a small boat is OK. The Atlantic coast has WAY better fishing offshore and clear blue water but is also crowded.

I wasted 12 years of my life there. Left in 1987 and never looked back. Don't know how much it has changed but it was a major armpit then.
It was really good fishing then. That is the only thing that place has ever had going for it. I would personally look for something around the Ft. Myers area.
ETA: Or look for something on the East Coast.

You weren't kidding about the dogshit smell. Holy hell!!! Oh well, it's only a 3-month gig. We're spending the weekend at Pompano Beach. :D

Good choice of R&R, by the way check out the Tactical Firearms Academy website to take advantage of some of the most outlandish and sick classes offered in the country.
It would be a complete waste of visiting shittown if you didn't
