I was thinking about purchasing an Omega barreled upper and purchasing the trigger pack from HKParts but did not realize all the different options. Being new to this platform I was hoping for some quick pointers so ...
I appreciate the education. Thanks, |

With the Omega you are going to want a clipped and pinned trigger housing, so when you order look for C&P or "clipped and pinned" in the item description.
Your choice is really one of aesthetics as the older SEF semi packs and the newer ambi semi packs are fundamentally identical from a function standpoint, but they are different from a mechanical standpoint. SEF packs have a single metal selector lever on the right hand thumb side and you can find various trigger housings for them. Some housings are the "classic" ergonomic look, some are the civilian metal body style and others have a more modern "Navy" style look. ("Navy" is a term thrown around a lot with MP5 trigger groups. A "real" Navy trigger group is a three position ambi pack as found on the MP5-N guns, but the term "Navy" has come to be synonymous with the ambi trigger housing style in some circles.) Ambi packs are the more modern ambidextrous selector trigger packs that have dual plastic coated selectors and usually come in pictogram style housings. You can get extended right hand thumb side ambi levers and you can get pictogram trigger housings in multiple flavors (semi, three position, four position, burst, even number and letter). I guess the three big questions to picking a trigger group are: 1) how much do you want to spend? 2) are you trying to replicate a historical or current MP5 model? 3) are you looking to pick up 922r parts in the trigger pack? IMO if you are not looking to spend a lot the SEF packs seem to be in less demand and can be had cheaper. If you are trying to replicate a certain MP5 type then you'll want to get the pack that fits your goal (i.e. MP5-N will have a three position ambi trigger pack, the Die Hard will have a metal SEF stylei trigger pack, an MP5A5 would have a three or four position ambi, etc.) And if you are looking to pick up 922r parts you can use either pack but make sure to buy US made billet trigger, hammer and sear to install. |

JsARCLIGHT put a lot of good information in his post.
With the Omega, you won't need to worry about 922(r) as there are more than enough U.S. parts without having to have U.S. parts in the trigger group/housing. The best "deal" out there is probably the clipped & pinned Navy "style" (which also seems to indicate polymer trigger housings without finger grooves) SEF (a.k.a. single sided, non-ambi safety) for around $270 from either HK Parts or RTG Parts. If you really want an ambi safety, that will probably run you closer to $400 for a complete turnkey solution. |

In case it was not assumed, any trigger group and housing that is clipped and pinned and is type specific (Full Size vs K) will fit your Omega, and any type specific (SEF vs ambi) semi auto trigger pack will also fit and function. If you buy from a reputable place like HKParts or RobertRTG then you shouldn't have to worry about getting a pack with the wrong ejector lever or hammer spring in it.
And as a personal note, I prefer the ambi packs for several reasons (aesthetics mostly) but the ambi trigger housings (and some of the SEF "Navy" style housings) offer you the ability to get a grip cap / plug. They sell them in a few different varieties (thread protector holder, spare battery holder, etc.) but I use them to hold a copy of my NFA paperwork for that gun. Fold it up and stash it in the grip behind the grip cap. Viola, you always have a copy of your paperwork with the gun. |
