So I let my desire to own an MP5 get the better of me. Had a spare bit of disposable income and a store with a stash of POF-5's in stock near me. I have been waiting on the CZ Scorpion Evo but have always wanted an MP5; just one of those Grail gun type of things. Anyhow I drove up to Quiet Riot Firearms in McDonough, GA over the weekend to check one out in person. (The staff there is amazing with customer service and I'll keep buying from them in the future) I picked it up and it came home with me; I am safe to say that I am very happy with my purchase. It was definitely nice to handle one in person before buying (especially with the offer from the staff to go back and bring out others if this one didn't make muster).
Initial Impression The POF-5 looked great in person, no crooked cocking tube/ triple tree. Solid welds all throughout. It's one of the newer imports with a factory QC list included with the gun as well. The finish is uniform throughout with no globs of paint evident. Its on the shiny side but honestly after its stamp gets approved it will be engraved and later probably given a proper HK-like paintjob on down the line. It has the standard A2 front furniture (which I'd like to switch out later for an older Police trade-in Surefire forened), but this will totally work for now. PRO's -Its a legit MP5 off of licensed HK tooling/machinery and Marked so as well (POF MP5 14) on the top of the receiver. -It was zeroed perfectly out of the box. -Packed well and had only a small handling mark (stacking, packing, or shipping who knows- not a huge deal) -Solid pistol, heavy and robust -1/2x28 Threaded Barrel WITH three lug as well (included a thread protector) -Shipped with an End Cap with sling swivel -Push pin lower (swing out and detachable) -Paddle mag release as well as push-button CON's - Finish is not as nice as an HK; but that should be expected as its less than the cost of a real HK marked MP5 - I'm not a huge fan of the lower receiver/ trigger housing (I think I'll look for a Navy style polymer housing) but this is strictly aesthetics - Only comes with one 30rd magazine (I would have like to see at least two for the price you are paying but that's just me) (In all honesty my Cons are all dealing with slight visual aesthetics and in no way the manufacturing or functioning of the firearm) Shooting the POF-5 I took it home and field stripped the pistol and did a quick wipe down and re-lube prior to shooting it the next day. I attached a Viking tactics style sling to the pistol (front and back swivels) and pushed out just enough to replicate the appropriate LOP with a standard A2 stock (which I'll be picking up once the stamp goes through). I took 200rds of 9mm ball out for the first shooting (100 Winchester white box and 100 Remington Green box). I shot from 10yds to 25yds at an indoor known distance range (Shooter's in Columbus GA). It's an easy shooting pistol with little recoil and is very accurate. I did not have to adjust the sights at all from how they were shipped from the factory. My best group was an 5rds in an inch square at 10 yards (not bad for just a sling and the first time out). At 20 yards with 30rds with a medium rate of fire I was able to make a nice ragged hole across three inches. I had absolutely ZERO malfunctions of any kind in these first 200rds (with bulk factory ammo). I can see that this will be an accurate weapon with an appropriate stock (again as soon as the stamp comes back). I can't wait to get it into operation with a real A2 stock on it. It would be nice to get a collapsible sling and go for a Diehard movie gun as well; but I'd rather go with a fixed stock. I picked up two additional POF marked magazines as well at the time of purchase. All three magazines had ZERO issues and ran just fine. I will be on the lookout for real HK magazines as I can find them on the EE for non-gouging prices as well. Planned upgrades along the way 1. Tax stamp for an SBR 2. MP5 A2 stock 3. Surefire forend (police trade-in preferably for cost purposes) 4. More Magazines and ammo I have no desire to add rails, or an AR style buttstock, Its an MP5 and should look the part, its a classic iconic firearm. In my opinion not all firearms should look like an AR. The Ti-Rant .45 is in the works right now and will be on here ASAP once I can pick it up. Overall This is a great gun and a lot of fun to shoot. I had a huge grin on my face as I was shooting it. Its definitely a grail gun for me and something I have always wanted. As far as accessories; all it really needs are more ammo and a few more magazines. Other than that its a blast to shoot and will be a range favorite every time I go out. (If anyone wants to host a few pictures for me shoot me an IM and I'll take a few for this review) |
| I got a lemon on my first one. Reliable but the front sight was canted. Atlantic did a fantastic job. They got me a replacement within a couple days and paid to ship the old one back. I put a couple mags through the new one today with no issues. Once I Form 1 comes through I'll do a bunch of photos and video. |

I'm betting they have as the QC checklist covers that when its shipped out of the POF factory. Mine came out of there on 12 Dec 14.
The QC sheet covers: Import Markings Canted Sights Crooked Cocking Tube Bent Frame/ Reciever Finish quality Bolt Check Function Check Flash Hider Alignment All of these are Pass or Fail or refer for rework prior to leaving the factory and it's by serial number for each weapon. The QC is signed off by Daudsons Armory Ltd and Certified by POF prior to shipping. This is how I understand the sheet anyways. I'm very happy with mine and can't wait to Form 1 this thing. |

I received mine and I don't have any complaints about it or the finish, couldn't be happier! I still have yet to try it, but I went over it and all looks good! |

I got my Korean mags today. With the bolt closed there is no side wiggle, just a little front and back wiggle, just as the POF mags.
But, reloading with the bolt closed, they absolutely will not lock in place. I tried everything, but they wouldn't lock. I loaded a few rounds in them, and reinsert them and they still will not lock. Reloading the POF mag, it lock with the bolt closed, just have to give it a tap, but not the Koreans. I know to reload, HK method is to lock back the bolt, which is not a problem with the Korean mags, but I would prefer to use the "AK" method. |

The mags have a heavy finish and fit more tightly in the mag well, requiring a firm push. Like I said up above, once the mag is in as far as you can push it, rocking the mag backwards helps. The finish will wear with use and they will be easier. You should disassemble the mags and clean out the insides too. |

Hopefully another few weeks. I'll have a local engraver do the work. He does stuff for a local smith that trusts him as well. I'm looking at this lower:HK33 lower I bought an FBI lower and mistakenly thought I could just drop it in. It was an easy return through Gatewood Police Supply. BTW GPS is a great company with solid gear at great prices and superb customer service. Big shout out to Ben in the customer service department. Also put a few more boxes of Blazer brass through it as well; no issues at all. I've got another hundred rounds of Sellior & Belloit to test out as well. Hope the Form1 gets approved soon. |
