I got a birthday coming up and my wife said I could pull the trigger on a new gun -- I am debating what to get right now I am leaning toward a MR762 -- any thoughts on this?  I have been searching all over I found them via gun watcher.com - all of them are a decent price.... I know this is the HK chat I am also wondering if instead of a new gun if I should get a old one maybe a HK91

Here is the deal -- I really want a 308 -- but I can't decide. If you check gun watcher the prices are about the same so what do you guys think HK 91 or HK MR762?

Please help thanks.

I personally don't feel the MR762 is worth it when compared to other .308 ARs for the same money or less(ie LMT MWS, Larue, GAP-10). I would much rather have a 91 (and I do ).

what do you think about the HK43 or HK91 -- I am not sure I understand the difference.

The HK43 is similar to both the HK33 and the HK93 (basically the same) and is chambered in 5.56 whereas the the HK91 is chambered in .308.

Yeah, I'm not into paying the ridiculous HK tax either. To me, $3600-ish for a 16.5" barrel MBR is nuts. If you want a .308 AR battle rifle, save yourself $500 - $1k and look into some other options. For a .308 MBR, I personally like an 18" barrel.
Regarding the HK91, they are nice, but they are classic design MBR that is different breed than a .308 AR rifles. They are shooters, but their price makes them more for HK collectors. The PTR91 would be a more cost-effective shooter.
In fact, if  you're able to drop $3600+ for the MR762, but like the 91 deign as well, you could buy a PTR91 and a cheaper .308 AR for that price.

If you're wanting something for MR762 money either get a FN SCAR17, LMT MWS, or older KAC SR-25.  Seriously.  To me, the MR762 is for the H&K collector that has every other H&K gun and needs it to complete the collection.  If you're wanting a good 308 gun, as others have said, there are much better options out there with much more support.

I have both guns.  I am really happy with the HK MR762, it has accomplished everything I was looking for in a .308 AR platform.   On the other hand, my HK91 is still my baby.

The barrel and trigger and rails are FAR better on the MR762, but the HK91 still will consume any ammo it is fed.

IMO putting cash into a MR762 or FN SCAR is for the purpose of owning a great deer hunting, long range / SHTF rifle....where as the HK91 being a pre89 gun will do the same role but always have collector value.

If you go with the Hk91 remember that you will need to update the trigger, add a scope mount, maybe a cheek rest to mazamize accuracy.
