I've always wanted a MP5-K with the collapsible stock.  Where's the best place to start looking for a good quality clone?  Any of the manufacturers make a factory SBR?

This is exactly what I want the finished product to look like.

I was thinking about one myself, Ghilliebear or Jeff from Parabellum Tactical Defense Solutions does excellent work. The kit cost about 2,200 between that and his fee it's about three thousand. He won't make an SBR. He will make a pistol and add the compliance parts, send in a form one. Once you get your stamp back, just add the stock and have it engraved. Instant SBR !

I have a DJ Getz 89k that is currently waiting on a form 1. To use the pictured stock I *believe* you would need to look for a "reverse stretch 89k". It's basically the full size mp5 frame, which allows you to add the usual mp5 stock varieties, with a short K barrel. My only regret with going with the 89k is that I can't go with a collapsible stock, but a short UMP stock is sexy I suppose.

For those pictured you will need a reverse stretch reciver. Several excellent builders mentioned, be prepared for a long wait.

I mention Jeff cause he was great, the build speaks for itself. It's not an MP5K, just an MP5 that's sear ready and I'm more than happy with it.

I'll go out on a limb here and call out your second picture as belonging to "pnutlee" on HKPRO.  Looks like his before he had a chance to refinish the stock.  That weapon is a Dakota Tactical Reverse Stretch.  There are multiple sources for a great functioning clone- no question.  When I decided to go for one after many, many months of research I chose a Dakota Tactical.  My purchase was something I wanted to do top shelf, no-holds-barred.  Certainly not the "easiest" route, but in life such are things.  I would never think of another source after having one of these masterpieces.  Here is my pistol reverse stretch- maybe one of these days I apply for a stamp and get it looking like what you are after as an SBR.  Truly- I feel for someone who prefers maximum attention to detail and craftsmanship Dakota Tactical will not disappoint.

I have a clone from Mike Turner out in AZ that is very well build and isn't picky with ammo. Not to mention, he has great customer service. Don't think you can go wrong with any of the top-quality manufacturers though...

I also had Jeff "Ghilliebear" work on my K, which was converted into a PDW. I would suggest holding off until later this year. MKE will be importing their roller locks again sometime in Q3 and Q4. These are HK licensed gun built in Turkey and the quality is top notch. All Ghillie did on my MKE "K" was the switch out the barrel to a three lug.

MKE is said they were going to import reverse stretch models, yet I don't know when. If you can't wait, they any of the builders already mentioned would serve you well.

Thanks for the great info guys.  If MKE is going to offer a reverse stretch I might be able to wait it out.  I've read good things about the MKE guns.

I'll look into the other suggestions.

Get in on the djgetz stuff sooner than later.

He's got a sale thread over on HKpro.

If I wasn't knee deep in mp5 clones already, I'd order a couple more.

Ghilliebear or DJ are excellent choices. Ghillie is a master craftsman when it comes to the HK platforms; he created a custom HK53-SD that blew my mind. And the Reverse-stretch K is a prefect choice.

Another vote for DJ Getz.

I just got a Reverse Stretch rifle, and it looks and feels great (haven't got it to the range yet). The nice thing about DJ Getz is the weapons are complete and ready to go, no messing around with kits and builds. It took me about a week from the time I first spoke with him till I had the rifle in hand. He also has phenomenal customer service, he answered every stupid question I threw at him within 10 minutes.

I hope OP doesnt mind me throwing in. I already bought one of the barreled uppers from black market or whatever they call themselves. Does the recomendation change if I already have the upper? I assume they will all build off that.

Prices look reasonable.  I might have to try and make this happen sooner then I had planned.

Cool.  Do you know if he will engrave your form 1 info?  Only thing you've got to do to turn it into a sbr is remove the fake suppressor correct?  Will it still be 922r with the fake suppressor removed?  I guess I should be asking DJ these questions, but figured you might of already asked.
5/15/2014 5:21:53 AM EDT
[#14]
It will be 922r compliant because it is a US parts gun.  The ones from Dakota and Gillie Bear are made from German HK parts kits that's one of the reasons they are much more expensive.  Both will work and be very nice but some guys will pay a premium for German HK parts.

DJ does do factory SBRs. Otherwise if you got the rifle you would need to remove the pinned fake can once you stamp comes in.  I'd get it engraved at some point while waiting on the stamp.

Good to know.  Factory sbr seems like the easiest option.  Thanks for the info.

I'd start with the pistol if you are wanting to SBR down the road. Plus it'll force you to actually get the SBR paperwork going. As a pistol, they are fun, but nowhere near as fun as a SBR.

Also, Significantly easier to add a stock than mill off a fake can.

My fake can was also terribly loose on my clone (old bobcat, not the latest clones) and I couldn't hit anything with it. I strongly thought about ditching it before one of my friend talked me into keeping it.

Black Market Parts is turning out some really good stuff these days.

Haters hate

My personal (not regurgitated internet hoopla) experience is very favorable.  These make great sear hosts.

Here's a pic of a few of my varients:

Top to bottom (all clones)
Mp5
Reverse stretch (DJF gun)
Mp5k with B&T short stock
Mp5k w/ shroud (very front heavy and therefore very controllable in FA  for newer shooters)

I rarely use the A3 stock on the mp5 or reverse stretch as the A2 is tons more comfortable. The A2 style folders are nice too.

Jeff Walters/Ghilliebear2000 on HKPRO is in east oklahoma.  Ive been to his place 2x to have him debug 2 of the above clones.  Great Guy to deal with!  DJF is also a great guy!

More reverse stretch pics from hkpro:

Jeff "Ghilliebear" goes by Ghillebear2000 over on HK Pro for the win. Great guy to deal with, very fair prices and quick turn around time.

ETA:

Also OP, between the two pics you posted, there will be a pretty substantial price difference. one is a picto lower and the other is an SEF. Picto set up will run you about $600-$800 more. Crazy I know....

Are you set on a collapsible stock? The Choate Tactical folder gives you a nice short stock and can be made a little longer with spacers. It also gives you a better cheek weld. I love mine on my MKE 94k SBR.

I've jumped into the MP5 clone market with both feet recently.  I bought a MP5 fullsize factory SBR built by Jayson from IGF.  The guy I bought it from has barely shot it and it was an all HK parts gun with A2 and A3 stock.

I also bought one of the Atlantic 89K pistols to play with until the form 4 comes in.  I'm going to test it a lot to make sure its good then form 1 it and add the side folding stock for a PDW build.

I'm really liking the AP micro mounted low on that PDW it looks great!

He is going to do a full K conversion and I will SBR it. This was taken at the Bi-Annual Eastern Lancaster Co Rod and Gun Club's Bi-Annual Machine Gun Shoot held last weekend.
