Hello all, I'm not new to HKs, but I don't keep up with them
As much as I do ARs, so I'm curious about something,
And sorry if this has been covered.

But why is hk not involved in the civilian market?,
Excluding the 556, why is there no civilian line
Of mp5 type weapons anymore?

In general, from back into the 80's, HK has been unexcited about the civiian rifle market.

They imported the 91, 93, and 94 back in the 80's, till Bush ("The Congress will push me to raise taxes, and I'll say read my lips boss, how high do you want them!") EO an import ban to suck up to the media and leftists, and becuase he was a piece of shit.

After than, they would have had to open up a factory in the US to build them, and either figured there wasn't that much of a market, or just didn't want to fool with it.

Now with all the AR's sold since then, that was a poor decsion, but companies and people do poor things.  Maybe they figured they had limited resources and wanted to concentrae on the miliatary and LE and pistol markets and keep the quality up too.

Thanks for the help guys. It makes no sense,
With sig,Ptr,microtech, FAL,various AKs,and now the tavor
All foreign rifles made in the us now,
Hk knows the market is there. Just no interest.

I remember when I was a kid, the local gun store racks were full of
Hks, augs, Fnc, Uzis and everything else.
If we would have known then what we know now

HK no longer makes a roller locked weapon.   HK's primary market is military/police.   I can see the where they would be cautious about building a plant to supply rifles for civil sales here in hte US.  Look how hard the left pushed to ban EBR's, too easy to lose your investment.

Pretty sure they still make MP5's.

Nope, you're right.  I was thinking HK stopped production and MP5's were only available from the contract makers.  I was wrong.

All good, I thought they still made them, the problem is they don't make
Them for us!

As an LE, let me tell you that parts for an MP5 aren't exactly flowing like water from HK...you have to be from a "sizeable" agency, and my 50 officers don't make the cut.

There's more than one reason the SMG pistol caliber platforms were replaced by AR platforms...

I've heard of law enforcement agency's cannibalizing
Non working HKs to repair working ones.
Because they can't get parts
