I was looking at trying to get a hold of a MP5 Clone, and I was wondering what the opinions are on the board about a reliable clone.  I was looking at Atlantic Firearms and they have quite the selection, the only company that I am familiar with is Vector Arms, I was wondering about Turner Fabrications good, bad, or indifferent?  Is there a big difference between the MP5 clone or a V94 MP5 clone????

I have a Vector MP5 SBR, MP5K PDW SBR, 51 SBR, 53 SBR, V93, and a couple of their AKs.  They have all run perfectly out of the box.  I would have no issues with Vector Arms.  The only real complaint I have ever heard is their finishes are not the best, but mine have held up well.

Check out the Coharie guns on the "Sturmgewehr Semi-Auto Market Board". Myself & friends have purchased Coharies from DJ Firearms.
Turner seems to have a good rep from what I've read but I've never handled one of his builds. My understanding is Mike Turner works for Todd at SW/Coharie.
Dakota Tactical is another custom builder that has some great looking pieces out there.
Lets just say I'm not a big fan of Vectors but the couple of 51's I've shot ran good, never played with their 9mm's.

I have a Coharie 89k and I love it. They are somewhat notorious for bolt head problems, I put an HK bolt head on mine and it runs like a champ.
I have heard he will replace the bolt head with the newer ones that work better if you have problems.

same here, I have their MP5K PDW SBR and 53 SBR.  I didn't need to change out any parts to make them run 100 percent like others, both function out of the box with every brand of ammo I fed it from the cheap alum. case BRAZER, WOLF on up.  as for mags, the MP5 has no issues with curved or straight mags . as for finish, I have no complaint about them, it held up very well.

Take a look at Dakota Tactical. The D54P is a very high quality MP5 clone.

I'm just fine with the Coharie's and Vector's:

I have a Coharie MP5 SBR clone that I love but it still occationally has a FTE Demon that arises .....
My Vector mp5k SBR runs 100% (per the seller, 8 months into the 2x transfers)
I just picked up a Vector 53 SBR that is approx 4 years old and is still NIB.  Looks great, but haven't shot it yet.
I have a Coharie MP5k-FS incoming.  (Soon to be SBR'd)..

The Coharie's are $1100-1400, the Vector's run $1800 or so, Dakota Tactical & Turner Fab seem to be the best (finish and problem free out of the box) but run approx 2400.00.  For me, I'll stick with the Coharie and spend a little if needed, to relace a part or two.

Mike Turner - Turner Fabrications Inc. - Arizona

One of the best builders in the industry par none.

Do your self a favor and contact all the others they are referring to on this site and ask a couple simple questions? How many different make and models have they built based on the MP5 platform?  Then contact mike Mike Turner - He has literally done a thousand - look at that number again " Over a thousand"  with every type of weapons kit ever manufactured US, Malayan, POF and German.

Mike doesn't really fish on the boards from what I've noticed.  Do yourself a favor and contact him.

I have had weapons built by many different HK smiths and for this platform he is the go to guy.

Turner fab built my mp10 clone and did an excellent job.  Started with a new hk factory 10mm barrel and a vector/cohaire 40 kit.  Need a different trunion and he suggested a different fake supressor that needed some mods (no NFA in IA)  Communication was A+ the whole way and the gun runs like a champ.

I also have had Ghillie build me a 93 clone and would use him again without hesitation.

Coharie is still making them?

I bought one of their HK94 clones back in 2007 when they were allegedly 'getting out of the business.'

They are selling off the last 25 or so guns , then no more.

Primarily because  the hk lawsuit.   Parts are also drying up it seems.

I see a few Coharies over on Sturm - this intrigues me as I had emailed them and was told they were done with 9mm guns.

I want an MP5 clone in a bad way, too.  The prices just frustrate me.

ETA: I decided to sell off a couple of guns and go for it.  I have an email out to a few folks.

I think Coharie (Bailey) has been going "out of buiz" and making his "last 25 guns/receivers" abouit 500 guns ago.   At least for the last couple of years.   I think he gets alot of people to bite that way.  Just MHO.

Will the Coharie guns accept a sear?  I've kind of shied away from the idea of the MKE guns in the past since they can't accept a sear.

I don't have one now, but it's on my list for the future.

For $1,080 you can get a CA89 pistol.  So far, no problems with mine, but there haven't been too many rounds put through it:

Where would I start looking for one of these for that price?  How is reputable to deal with?

Thanks!

Well if you had H&K breathing down your neck, you'd probably stick to that story as long as you could too.

As long as they stay in the "going out of business, sell off our remaining inventory" status, they can stay somewhat under the radar. And we all win.

My story has come full circle. Back in 2001?. I bought a HK94 SBR, later sold it to help finance a mp5 sear gun, got a little bored w/it and sold it.  missed the platform so I built up a 5" 9mm SBR AR.  It was in no way as smooth as the roller guns.  Saw a mp5 clone and picked it up, then had to have the "K", etc..  Currently at 4 HK/Clone hosts and a sear in my future..

I tried to buy an 89k from them about 2 weeks ago and was told that I missed the last one by a day. I asked when they would have some more built and she said that no more will be made.
