Hey all,
My boss at work was ordering some spare parts for his Cohaire MP5 clone and I was glancing at his receipt, and two things caught my eye. He purchased an unmodified F\A SEF Trigger Pack and a F\A bolt carrier. I do not know how the conversion process is nor do I wish to know, but does he have the parts to possess a select fire weapon and risking being a felon? Or does his semi auto clone prevent him from doing so? The parts in this pack that enable F\A parts are removed correct? (auto sear, trip ect) Just want to inform him if he in fact is violating any laws. |

The FA pack goes in a FA grip that takes a push pin on the front similar to the one that holds it at the rear. The FA pack has to be cut and the sear removed before it will work with the SA clone gun. His parts, as they are now (if unmodified) are legal for him to own. But if he does anything to make them fit together and still shoot FA... then it's off to the pokey for 10 years, and a $10,000 fine. |

So am I correct that the sear in this pack is identical to say a $15k Fleming Sear........only this will cost $10k, 10 years, and your ass virginity? No, you are incorrect. The geometry of the modified SA packs makes it necessary that the sear catch (registered part) is different in size and geometty. The cutout that is required in a FA trigger pack to make it sit on the SA shelf of the receiver interferes with the mount/pivot hole of the FA pack sear catch. So it has to be moved slightly rearward and changed in shape. This also results in a slightly different timing. The SA packs with a transferrable sear tend to have a slightly faster cycle rate. This can be offset in part by changing to a modified "re-timed" hammer. |

Push pins are used to hold the rear of a G3 grip. On the MP5 (or SA version like the HK94 and clones) the rear of the grip is held in place by the rear stock, which is held on my a push pin. |

| makes me wonder if anyones actually been successfully prosecuted to the full extent for ...negligently putting in auto parts/making a machine gun, i just wonder about the actual sentences. Having taken... who knows how many criminal justice classes, convicts almost never get a full sentence, and definitely dont serve full term, not to mention most cases are thrown out or plea agreements, i feel like anyone with a half decent lawyer would get the case either thrown out, or never spend anything close to 10 years... not that im in any way defending making a machine gun, im just curious as to who's been successfully prosecuted, i think im gonna go look up some cases! |

Just to be clear here, you can't simply (negligently) put full auto parts into a semi-auto gun and make it full auto. They simply don't fit or attach correctly. You'd have to do very precise machining and re-work which would be very difficult to claim as "didn't know any better". Even the pack referenced above, that will take a factory sear catch and work on a shelf, is a registered NFA pack that he's asking over $15k for. Then you're still going to have to wait for the transfer to get approved by the BATFE. |

My old man bought a SH trigger pack and it fit right on to his bobcat, the bolt had to be replaced but it works great. I didnt pop off the lower to see what mods had to be done but its not a push pin receiver and the receiver is stock other than he removed the fake can.
I seen his tax stamp and it was a SH sear if Im right. |

I seen his tax stamp and it was a SH sear if Im right. If it was an S&H sear, it was designed from the get-go to be installed in a semi-auto pack - that's why it fit and worked. It was never intended to be placed in a standard factory SEF pack. |
