I finished my AR and big supprise... instantly bored.

So, I've decided i need a PTR 91. I often hear complaints about the mounting options (or lack of). I'm interested in a .308 ACOG for the PTR, but have not once seen a Trijicon ACOG HK mount. Why?

Also, I'm assuming the Trijicon mount would place the ACOG at the right height. Correct?

So why dont we see more of these Trijicon mounts?

Because it sits too high and gives poor cheek weld and eye relief.

This is as low a mount (MFI) as is available and it's still high (IMO) - scope is as far back as possible and eye relief is still poor (too far forward).

I like that MFI mount. I got one for my Vector 53 SBR and it wouldn't fit. Works perfectly on my HK-93. I put an Eotech on mine.

How did it not fit?

I ask because when I bought the MFI for my V53, it also would not fit until I filed down the stud on the top f the receiver a bit. Then it fit perfectly.

What Osprey21 said.Any Acog you put on a 9* series is going to give you poor cheek weld. There's just no way around it.

would this stock help at all? Seems like the precision stocks available for the G3/variants all provide cheek weld far back on the stock; too far back for a TA31

It didn't fit because the receivers are NOT HK spec. If they were, you wouldn't have to do any filing on them. I have an HK claw mount that won't fit the V-53 either.

Correct me if I"m wrong, but weren't the claw-mounts all intended to be filed to fit on the specific gun?  Over the years, I've shot several G3 and HK91s with the HK made mount... all the mounts had at least a little bit of filing work done on them to get them to fit the Factory HK receivers.  I believe I was told they were intended to be filed to fit by an armorer to squeeze the best performance and accuracy out of the mount and rifle.

One of the HK gurus care to chime in?

I've used my claw mount and the MFI mount on my HK-93 and it fit fine. It will NOT fit the Vector -53. I have never heard anything about filing the claw mount to fit the rifle. Maybe thats something they do for the sniper version. I don't know.

That may just be it... my first exposure to the G3 pattern rifles were PSG-1s... Pretty much everything on those rifles were hand fit to squeeze out the accuracy.
I would guess that a filed mount would work fine though on my PTR... Stamped receivers are bound to have a bit more "play" in the tolerance over a CNC Milled piece I'd wager.

I'll be snagging a scope/mount/illumination device here shortly and will report back when I get it on.
