anyone know where i can buy a ptr91 that is ny compliant besides local shops. shops around here are overpriced and usually don't carry these. i'm thinking of trading/selling my wilson cqb for one plus cash. i'm interested in a 16'' carbine. maybe the railed one(ptr91kc?) but not sure yet.

I thought that if you did not own on you were NY compliant

that's hilarious stoner but do you have any answers that will actually help? i know you have a few ptr91's. i'm stuck between the ptr,fal and m1a. with the ptr91 being the cheapest reliable and accurate it's a very serious contender.

I guess we need to know just what NY compliant means.  The M1A, FAL and PTR91 all accept 20 and 30rns mags, all are semi auto and all can have folding stocks. The PTR is an excellent choice a sto the price and cheap mags. I shoot my PTR's more then any other of the other two. There are many surplus parts available and enough for years to come.

by ny compliant i mean perm attached muzzle brake instead of flash suppressor, no bayo lug, and fixed stock.

Basically the standard PTR Rifle "F" in 16" or 18" Just sliver solder the flash Sup on. It should be OK.

Here in Alabama they are going for around $1199

that's a great price. you would suggest the 18'' bbl over the 16''? i'm 5'10'' 150 and skinny and was thinking the 16'' would be handier. what do you think? my local range only goes to 200 yds. i can't have a flash suppressor at all. must be a comp, muzzle brake or just plain bbl with no muzzle brake at all.

I have both and the 16" shoots just as good as the 18" The accuracy is the same. It is a little lighter on the front end

called every shop within 40 miles of my house. one shop had a m1a standard used for 1899.00 f***ing nuts. one guy had a dsa stg58 he had for sale. by the time i get there someone else bought it. i see a ptr 91 on the wall with a sold tag on it. look on another shelf. another ptr 91. i pick it up and it's awesome. comfortable . not too heavy great balance. the charging handle and sights were great. manager comes around right when i'm about to say i'll take it and says i can't. it has a flash suppressor and is le only because i'm in new york. can't f***ing believe this. i find someone with a lightly used socom 16 that will trade for my wilson, can't find preban usgi 20 rounders anywhere. WTF?
needless to say i loved the feel of that ptr 91 but i guess i'm screwed. it was a 16'' model and i keep thinking about it.
how is the recoil ? as bad as the rumors. maybe i can find one somewhere. hate the laws here.

I have an 18", and recoil is nothing compared to bolt actions. If you have ever fired a 12 ga. you will not complain about the PTR.

I think the 16" balances better than the 18" unless you add a SG1 stock and/or heavy buffer to the 18".  As for felt recoil between the 18" and 16" I can't tell a difference.

If NY compliant is all you're after, just have a gunsmith pin and weld a brake on.  Easy fix!

If that's your only obstacle you're closer to owning a PTR than you think.

PTR makes models with permanently attached compensators. We have the same type of laws here in CT and gunstores in CT routinely stock PTRs compliant with CT law.

And another great thing about these rifles for New York folks. All the surplus HK magazines have date of manufacture stamped on the mags. All the ones I own were manufactured well before 1994.
