| I saw G3 kits on Adam Weber's sight and it got me wondering. If I was to buy the reciever and the kit and build one my self I could save a little cash. Would it have enough US parts to be compliant? And would this be about as easy to build as an AR15? |

No, it would not have the full number of parts to be complient, but Adam does have the parts to make it so. As far as ease of build, from what i can tell its not to bad if you are an accomplished welder. Its not simply drop in and tighten up like an AR, you must weld in the trunion, and several other peices on to the reciever depending which reciever you purchas.

Yes its a big undertaking thats for sure, not a simple project to say the least. THere are people out there who build them though, and many will do it for a price. I belive IGF will build up kits for 600-1000 or so, but thats not first hand, thats from thier site and what others have said.
Im not sure what the clones are going for these days, but perhaps you could buy a kit from adam and send it to IGF or some other HK builder and still come out with a lower cost? Also even it cost is a bit higher you are getting an hk/hk contract (not sure where adams parts kits are from) G3/91 instead of one with possibly infirior parts. Im honestly in the same boat as you, save for i have a very well known HK smith and builder who lives 5 mins from me, and i decided to collect all HK parts and build my own. THat way i get a "real" german gun, the increased cost is worth it to me, maybe not for you. Good luck with whatever you choose. Pat |

Quoted: No, not enough wiggle room when setting the bolt gap if done that way.Why couldnt you just weld the entire trunnion/barrel assembly in at once? Seems like you wouldnt have to worry about any of the frontend stuff except for the cocking tube, and the assembly should already be headspaced, no? |
