Hi I am putting together some hand loads for deer hunting for my G3 type and looking for input as to which would be the best weight for the barrel. Looking at using hornady A-max. Will be out of LC cases with IMR 4064 w/winchester primer. Looking at either the 150, 155gr or 168gr. The gun has been holding good groups with standard ball ammo-147 FMJ so I would like to keep around the same if possible. Have also considered the hornady SST 150gr or nosler 150gr molly silver tip. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I use the 150 SST's out of my 16" PTR-91.  Plenty accurate and they're an effective killer of whitetails and feral pigs.  But I think its purely personal preference as to 150's or 165s.  I wouldn't use amax's because they're not made to be hunting bullets.  SST's are good hunting bullets and they're my primary load for my PTR-91.  I'm using BL-C(2) although I can't remember the charge.

And I don't think there's any reason to go to the extra expense of HDY Interbonds, Nosler Accubonds, Partitions, moly silvertips, etc on deer.  They're really easy to kill with a 30-cal.  You don't need a bonded bullet.

The only reason to load a bonded bullet is if you use the same gun for Elk or Oryx.  I use accubonds in my 270 but only because that gun is also used for Elk and Oryx.  In the PTR, I stick with SSTs and never plant to kill an elk with a 16" 308 when i've got a 270, 338 Lapua, 30-06, and 45-70 that are all more suitable for elk & oryx.
