I recently pulled out my MP5 clones after a long hiatus.

I have a late-model SW5 that runs about 90% (out-of-the-box).  The gripes are the usual suspects: FTE (ejection).

After all the internet reading (my eyes are starting to hurt ), can someone give me a "definitive" list of parts to replace (w factory HK) to increase reliability?

So far I've read:
- extractor spring (to increase 'tension')
- hammer spring (assuming I'm running one of the .308 springs - have to dbl check)

Some also say the ejector, but how do I know if mine is not up-to-spec or is faulty?

BTW - I am running factory HK mags, so there should be no issue there....

Thanks for the help.

When I buy any HK-style clone, the way I check the ejector lever(I always do) is to slowly manipulate the charging handle to bring the bolt/carrier rearward.  While doing this, I look thru the ejection port and magazine well and try to observe when the carrier is actuating the ejector lever upward.  I look to see how far it rises and if it contacts the bolt.  In my opinion - which may not be right - the lever shouldn't or should just barely contact the bottom of the bolt head.  It should continue to rise to make postitive contact with the spent cartridge to eject it out of the gun.  When observing, check and note where the tip of the lever is when it passes thru the part of the bolt head where the cartridge is held - the bolt face.  If it makes too much contact with the bottom of the bolt head, it may place stress on the trigger pack housing.  All of this depends on the shelf height on which the grip frame rests upon.  Some are higher, some are lower.  I'm not sure if any of this info is correct, but it makes sense to me and that's how I check it.  Hope this helps!  ARKAR

Ejector is #1 in my opinion

The clone ejectors are not up to HK generation 3 specs, and the metal is so soft it wears out quickly and won't stay rigid. A factory HK ejector made a night and day difference in my clone. Upon comparison I could see what a POS the clone part is.

Extractor spring would be next, might as well order it with the ejector to save on shipping, and if you still have FTE's (Unlikely) the extractor itself or complete bolt head if you want to spend the $$.

If you do have the 308 hammer spring a 9mm spring would be necessary also. Look here for how to identify-

When I first got my clone it worked goog but the brass would just dribble out just clearing th eejection port.

I went online a purchased a new ejector, extractor, and extractor spring.  Now my brass flings clear of the ejection port.

I really didnt need to change them but I figured I would do it right away it was just a matter of time before I had problems.

I have a 2000 model year SW5. I changed the usual suspects:

Extractor
Extaactor spring
Ejector

I noticed that the new ejector and original were identical. Yes, identical. So I'm not sure if it came with a good one or the previous owner had already replaced it. The extractor fit into the bolt head fine. But that was also identical.

My biggest change in feeding and extracting reliability came when I changed the .308 hammer spring to a 9mm version. That gave it the little extra "umph" to run well with cheap ammo.

To find out if it's a "lack of power" issue, look at the ammo that you're using. If it's Blazer, or UMC, or WWB... then try some hotter ammo like the S&B regular stuff. If that makes it cycle fine then you might want to look at changing out the hammer spring first.

Look over here for info and directions on how to do it.

I just got back from doing a range visit with my MP5 clone this morning and all I can say is WOW.  I was able to go through 500 rounds of 9mm ammo, in various grain weight, and only experienced 3 FTE (due to reloaded rounds and possibly the flutes getting all fouled up).  Anyways, I didn't change out anything and am happy I held out on ordering the usual replacement parts until after I had the opportunity to test fire the rifle first.  Now to fill out the forms and SBR the rifle.

thanks guys!

I'll double check the ejector (think its good), but am pretty sure I have to swap the hammer springs and extractor springs.

FWIW, I usually run pretty hot factory ammo (Remington 115gr +P)

Will keep you updated!

Hi Guys,

I just bought a used SW5 that was built in 2005....it looks brand new inside and out...the previous owner said that it ran great as long as you use the curved mags.....I tried it out for the first time today....and it ran great....I used my own reloads and Win white box.....no issues at all. I ran about 300 rounds through it.....

I didn't realize that you NY guys could buy these. Congrats on the purchase and good luck. I guess they won't let you SBR it though. It'll still be a lot of fun as is.

My SW5 was the first MP5/HK94 gun that I'd ever shot. I instantly fell in love with it.
