I heard that H&K is making civilian versions of their augmented M4 variant. I also heard that it will use the AR-15 lower receiver. Is this true? And would the 416 be a better buy than an AR-15? |

Only if you inted to fire it with the barrel full of water/mud/sand and do several beta bag dumps whilst with a 10.5" barrel. The 416 is good for spec. ops. that operate in extreme conditions, but the AR15's are good as is. We as civilians will not go beyond the AR15's operational requirements without hurting ourselves in the process! I love the 416, and think its a great rifle, but its way more than any civilian will ever need! |

We should just be satisfied they let us buy their $40 a piece AR mags. Just to repeat something from HKPRO , Heckler & Koch is one of the most poorly run weapons manufactures in the business. They have a license to print money yet they refuse to do so. If they opened a plant here and made their roller locked rifles they would not be able to keep up with the orders. Plus also adding the their AR line of 5.56 and .308 |

Lol not zumbo. dont worry. I just wont hold my breath for HK to release it. I know first hand what HK thinks of civilians (they dont care) Honestly, if you get your AR to jam and malfunction all the time, then mabey the 416 is for you. If you use the 416 to its full extent, all the more power to ya! I think its great that you use the rifle the way its meant to be used.  I just wont spend the 1200 US for the upper, or the 1600 for the entire rifle when i can get a regular AR15 (that I personally wont push beyond its limits) that i'll still have a lot of fun with! Strange how i say something like "most people wont put the AR15 past its limits" and i get crapped on. I know its an HK board and all, but if your paying twice or 3 times the price to get a gas piston and a free float rail. just doesn't seem worth it in my mind! Again, its an awesome weapon, would be good for extreme situations and such, but i would never get the use out of it, for what its designed for.  only my $.02. Take it or leave it, its worth as much as you payed for it. |

So you're saying that only SPECOPS operate in extrem enviroments. I think that regular combat arms soldiers of the U.S. and their coalition partners might be operating in some extreme enviroments too. You places like, oh, um, let me see if I can remember, oh yeah, IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN. There is a pretty good chance that I'll be headed in that direction and a 416 upper would suit me very well for that enviroment. |

Why not get a POF or LW? I'd like a 416 too, but I won't pay the price a complete rifle or even an HK upper would cost. I'd rather look for a good deal on a 91 or something.... At least with POF, LW, and even Ares you are supporting Americans and American ingenuity. |

because POF doesn't say H&K on it.... It is all in the name. That is all you pay for... But still.. IF Hk opened a Plant in the US and started chomping out semi G36's, UMP's (Not SL-8's and USC's), 416's and 417's. And even their old school (but yet still as good as ever) HK 91/93/94 line. they would own the civilian market. but they don't care.... Think about it for a second.. FN released the FS-2000 and the PS-90.... you still can't get either one of them.... how fast do you think a Semi MP7 and G36 or M8 would sell for? There is no way in hell they could keep up with demand.... End rant.exe... |

Like tracker said, They have a liscence to print money, but refuse to do so. HK's downward lok upon us lowly mortals is their biggest downfall. They create awesome weapons, but never care enough about the constant small income to care. They want huge military contracts, and fast big money. This is why im so sceptical about the 416. Where you have LWRC, POF, Bushmaster (or even ARES *gasp*) all making gas piston rifles (or piston conversions in the case of ares), and they CARE about you, and your money! so why not support them? I know HK has awesome quality, but its not like these companies are unable to do high quality work. Most of them are top notch as well! Im just tired of being crapped on for wanting to give a company money, and them saying "no!" I think HK is the only company that doesn't want to make money On the other hand, i have a mark23, and i love it to death. But HK is a tough company to love... they make good stuff, but hate anyone that doesn't have an government End user liscence. |
An AR15 is most likely way more than a civie will ever need. That doesn't mean we shouldn't have them!

Recreational MG shooters push their weapons far harder than any spec-op type, since if it breaks ( and it does), we are not at risk of death and just fix it or pickup another one. |
