My buddy just bought a new PTRc from my ffl and as soon as he and I got it to his house I showed him how to field strip it and we fund rust in several places. There are several areas that look like they weren't finished correctly which appears to have caused the rust. We found rust on the handguard pin hole, rust on the barrel just below the handguard pin hole, rust where the barrel & cocking tube join into the receiver, rust in the little box that houses the takedown 2 pin holes for the stock, and some light rust on the metal part of the Navy lower. I though that the PTR line was top notch??? Has anyone else run into any rust on their PTRs or Is this the second odd ball I've come accross??? Can this kind of rust be removed with a full sand blasting and complete refinishing or will it always just spread like car rust ???

Thanks,

That's the first I've heard of any rust anywhere besides just outside the chamber and trunion area.
Yeh I'd say you've got some oddball luck. If there's ever a ARF shoot that we both attend, ................stay the hell away from my rifles!!!!!

Just kidding..............well maybe a little.

I'd recommend having JLD/PTR take care of it and either fix it or exchange the rifle.

They do make a top notch rifle for all of the one's I've seen and the one I own.

I would send it back right away to JLD and get a brand new one.

I just shipped my PTR along with my Friends PTR back to JLD to be delt with. The owner told me that his gun smiths will look at the rifles and correct the poblem if need be. I hope they don't just oil the guns up and ship them back!!! I really like the H&K91 type rifle and I would hate to off load PTR just do to a little rust. I'll keep everyone posted.
