Hello, I am thinking of buying an early version of the SAR-8.
I know JLD sells a hammer, sear and cocking tube, and I think ARS sells a copy of the flash hider.
Where can I get other good quality US compliance parts?
Oh, and do you think $850 is a decent price?
Thanks

Or you could just spend the $850 and get the JDL PTR with everything already done and legal

I've seen them for anywhere from $600 up to $750 lately, depending on condition. I paid $650 for the one I used to have (and this was back when prices were up) and it came with mucho mags, a bipod, a hard case, a spare extractor and probably a few other extras I've forgotten about.

Prices appear to be way down on these lately.

Frankly, from the reading I've been doing lately, the PTR sounds like a nicer rifle than the SAR anyway, which is likely why prices are down in my estimation.

I of course could be wrong, but I personally wouldn't pay $850 for one.

I have to agree with you guys.
After looking at compliance parts, adding that to the rifle, plus paying the governor, a ptr-91 is a much better deal.
I'm not a collector, I just want one, nice Hk91 style rifle.
A ptr with shipping and a twenty dollar transfer is the way to go.

that's not a bad deal for the SAR.  I've got a 3/8 that I paid $900 for LNIB and don't regret it.  JLD makes a nice rifle I hear but I'd rather have a contract rifle than a clone.  The greek SAR's have 100% factory greek parts that are top quality.

It is nice, but it is a thumbhole so I will have to lose some greek parts to convert it.
Maybe I can get him to come down a bit.  If it only was preban ......

If we were talking about a greek gun $850 would be a great deal. But I do believe he's talking about one of the aluminum receiver guns with the flat top....not a 3/8 overstamp. For a later SAR....you can look in the EE. There's a guy in the WTT section offering one up already done with the compliance parts for $600. If it's an original greek gun, pay the $850 and never look back.

Personally, given the choice between the aluminum receiver gun and a JLD made on FMP tooling...I'd go with the PTR. But like I said, if I got the wrong idea and it's a 3/8 overstamp....get it now. $850 is a great price.

ETA:

The muzzle device on the later SAR8 is an ABOMINATION.

It is a Greek, and I do beleive it to be an overstamp.  The eight looks funny.

UPDATE.
You guys made me do it.
I am a new owner of a Greek SAR3/8.  EX  used for $725 out the door.  Hope I didn't get bent over.

I think I am falling under the spell.  I need to get rid of that muzzle weight, and find some quality US parts.
Looks good setting next to the SAR4800.

So this gun does NOT have the flat top receiver? If so, you just got a great deal. The last 3/8 I saw was going for $1,100. You should post some pictures!

Nope, it's sheetmetal all the way.  Only way I will buy one of those ugly alum jobs is to trade it for an M1A when it cracks.
The shop I bought it from had $850 on it, and with some asking, and taking a SAR4800 too, it went for $725, out the door, tax included.  Glad I saved some loot.  The guy said they book high, but there just isn't a market around here.
I'll try and post some pics if I can figure out how not to make 'em huge.

GLAD YOU WENT W/ THE SAR.  THE ONLY PROBLEM I'VE HAD W/ MINE IS THE PAINT JOB FLAKED A LITTLE WHERE IT SAYS EBO MADE IN GREECE.

I HEAR THAT GETTING THAT MUZZLE PROTECTOR IS EASY THOUGH I HAVEN'T GOT MINE OFF YET.  ARE YOU TAKING IT OFF?  LET ME KNOW HOW IT GOES.  MINE IS SERIAL # 855X BY THE WAY AND I GOT IT LNIB FOR $900 OUT THE DOOR.  YOU DID GOOD.

Mine has a few flakes there too.
I think I am going to order a Smith Vortex, and then take that ugly sucker off.

Very nice!
If you don't mind could you give me a run down of your US parts, and what you thought of them?

If you call springfield armory they will tell you when it was made/shipped.  They can do it right over the phone.
