Dear Sirs!
I have a 30 rd mag for the FAL or SLR. But I don´t know what exactly. It´s 30 rds of .308 ( obvious ;-)) it´s CURVED. Markings are SAR 85. The rear has a locking shoulder on the right side of the back of the mag. Contrary to my STG 58 mags, there is a slope beneath this, and then what looks like a secondlocking lug. ??? I feared, this might be a BREN mag, which has a reputation for weak springs, only designed to feed from top down. Is this a South African mag, and does SA use FN FAL´s or SLR´s??? Would it be possible, to make this mag useable in an FAL, if I remove the lower "lock area" (?)??? I am looking for an ORIGINAL ( not DSA cheaply made (?) ) 30 rd STRAIGHT FN FAL type mag, preferrably Canadian. A) what is my mag B) if Inch pattern, is ist convertible? C) where to look for genuine, surplus, good condition FAL 30 rounders, preferrably straight? D) Or get DSA? TIA, Hermann |

Sounds like an Inch mag, but pictures would be VERY helpful in obtaining a positive ID.
If it is an Inch mag it can be converted to work in a metric gun by grinding down the big front lug, but it needs to be fitted to your rifle for best results. I had one for my Israeli that worked 100% after conversion, but I sold it after a few years. It's fun to have 30rds of 7.62 NATO on hand until you have to replace all the ammo you end up shooting out of it. If I had the heavy-barrel version I might have kept the mag, but it was kind of heavy to carry in a lighter rifle. |
