So the rifle belongs to a family friend. He picked it up a few years ago and is wanting a few things. He is looking for a rail system and a way to mount a bipod. I have ZERO clue of the rifle and assumed I may be able to get some advice here. Does anyone have any sites they may be able to link for me so I can start looking for a few things for him? Thanks Fellas.

Be advised that the SAR4800 is a post ban/94 rifle. Correct. Will this play a role in searching for parts? It should not... plenty of US parts out there. I would go with stock, hg's, pg and a good FCG unless you can find a good source of floor plates and followers. EDIT> I am assuming it still has a butthole stock. If not disregard. Any railed HG should be US made. |

FWIW, some of the the Springfield SAR4800's were sold with the original stock, pistol grip and flash hider/comp in the box.
People did not worry about reinstalling the original stock. On my 4800 you can see that the "00" were stamped after the 48. |

Here is a copy of an original SAR4800 catalog. http://i143.photobucket.com/albums/r152/Farmer-Ted/SAR4800catalog_zps21054923.jpg Quote from it, "A thumbhole sporter stock is standard, but a special accurizing is available that includes a black pistol grip, stock, handguard, and flash suppressor." This is how mine came when I bough it from the original owner that said he bought it that way. Same here. |

The SAR48 and 4800 are the same rifle. The 4800 was imported later than the 48 and the designation was changed to reflect that the 4800 are post 1989 import ban. They are metric pattern. Metric pattern is what you need to know when looking for parts for your rifle. |
