So I recently Purchased an Imbel FAL kit, and Im getting ready to Stock up on mags. The one thing ive noticed is there isnt a mag reference sticky. Ive searched through various forums and from my understanding, Surplus is the way to go and DSA are hit or miss.
My question is, how do I differentiate between the various country of origin on surplus mags? Does it make a difference in terms of quality? What price range should I be looking at for each country? I also read that sometimes the surplus mags springs are weak, are there websites that sell replacement springs? Thanks in advance! Chris |

I have not used DSA mags so I cannot comment on their quality. I would say away from the "new" mags being advertised because they are most likely Korean made (not to knock Koreans, but they seem to have the most issues), I have 3 and all needed some work in order to feed and lock in right (see pics to see what to look for). Any surplus I have tried have been fine but make sure to clean them first. Most of what you will find on the market are STG (w/ witness holes), Israeli, and Belgium. There are probably many more with different variations but they should be good to go. Some of mine are unmarked as well.
As for replacement springs, I don't know. I haven't replaced any springs in mine yet but they still function. Again, clean them inside and out. Prices for surplus seem start at $15.00 for well used up over $25.00 for new stg's and Israeli's. Original 30 rounders and aluminum para mags demand a premium. Check the equipment exchange often and you should be able to score a good deal.
