Morning,
Yesterday I was removing the front hand grips on my FAL when I noticed there was a little side to side wiggle with the gas block. Everything looked to be in place. What would cause this? How do I tighten it up? Thanks |

What would cause this? How do I tighten it up? Thanks I have only seen this once. It was a frankenfal with an IMBEL barrel and a G1 gas block. I do NOT know the "proper" way to repair this, but I will tell you how I did it. I removed the gas block cross pin and gas block. (from hence referred to as GB) I turned the barrel over so that the bottom side of the GB journal was up. With the GB journal supported on a block of aluminum ( wood will work just fine), I used a transfer punch(any hardened steel punch with a fine point will do) to put small dimples in the journal.Use a small hammer and tap lightly. I made 5 rows of 5 dimples each along the length of the journal. I did this on the bottom half only. If you were to look at the dimples under a magnifying glass, they would look like small meteor craters. The center being pushed in, but the rim rising above the surface of the journal. I then pressed the GB back into place. Since I only dimpled the bottom, the inside of the GB was pulled down onto the gas port, thus making a proper seal. I replaced the cross pin with a roll pin. You may be able to simply replace your current cross pin with a roll pin without doing the dimple bit. It isn't a safety issue, so if you replace the cross pin with a roll pin and the GB comes loose again, no harm has been done. |

I did google this issue and a few articles came up but I didn't get a chance to read through them all.. |

You could also try ––––––- Fieldstrip gas block Degrease cross-pin/BBL/and gas block with CB cleaner or whatever non-residue aerosol cleaner you use Blow dry with compressed air and repeat above till clean Lightly warm with heatgun ––––- (optional) Apply Loctite #290 Green to the cross-pin/BBL/and gas block area Allow to dry over night. WARNING –––––––––– A little of the Loctite goes a long way –––––– use just enough to wick into the metal joints. Affix BBL in vice with BBL parallel to ground and front sight pointing up so as not to get any of the Loctite onto the front sight assembly and the gas adjust. I've used this method a few dozen times and it has always worked with the as-issued installed parts. If it's a non-original gas block I've always reamed and made oversized cross-pin YMMV... |
