I have a friend with an Fal, I believe it's a L1A1.  Is the action strong enough to fire commercial ammo ?
He was asking my advice and I'm not an expert so I thought I would ask the members here.  I've heard it was best
to stick with nato pressure ammunition but I don't know......
Thanks

Depends on the ammo.  Most commercial will be fine, but nothing marked "bolt rifles only" or known to be a high pressure loading.

I use Remington Core-Loks in my FAL for hog hunting. Hasn't been a problem.

I've read to avoid the heavier weight projectiles ie. 168 grain, commercial brass isn't as thick at the base as surplus so if the gun is loose on its headspace I believe case ruptures may occur.

Thanks everyone for your responses, I will pass the info on to my friend.

The headspace is the only issue.  Here's the info on pressure: http://how-i-did-it.org/762vs308/
