Thats a pretty good price. If I had the money I would get a 2nd one. The new R1A1 still have the "unibrow" ramp. But on mine, it seems larger than the old unibrow prictures that I have seem online. As far as reliability goes, I have two magazine that jam all the time and 6 magazines that work perfectly. With those 6 mags, I have put over 300 rounds down range with no issues. |

You may want to look for a used one. I found one with the thumbhole stock built in the pre-ban days. This one was built on a Imbel Brazil receiver takes both inch and metrick mags.
Mine has the widows peek feed ramps. I was told by the owner it dosnt like soft tip hunting ammo (I think I have that right) and I picked it up at a good deal. I have seen a few of them around on gun broker and places for the same price give or take for what J&G is selling them for. I also think the new Century guns dont have the sand cuts in the bolts and I have read there are some problems with those. You will want to get the gun checked for head space as well. They are not junk but might need a little tweeking on to get them to work is what I hear on the FAL Files. Im not to sure about the ones that Atlantic Firearms sells might want to check that brand out as well. I cant think of the name now. Good luck on getting a FAL I got one and its not going any where and I have not had any range time with it. |

I have a century from the ban days with the dreaded hesse receiver. After cleaning the grease out of the gas tube, it has never jamed with well over a case of ammo through it. I've got 2 Hesse/Century FAL's from that era. Both have widow's peak feed ramps and both shoot the same as my Imbel and DSA. The "Hesse Hate" has gone viral over the last 15 years on the net. I'm thinking that the vast majority of those who slam Hesse have never seen or shot a Hesse-receivered FAL. I'm not defending Hesse in general. I only have experience with their FAL Metric receivers. They are hit and miss. If you get one that's in spec (or reasonably close to it), it'll shoot. I didn't know about Hesse's spotty rep when I bought my first FAL back in the 90's. I guess I got lucky. If I found a deal on an FAL with a Hesse receiver today, I'd still buy it if I could shoot it first. |

The "Hesse hate" came from home builders trying to assemble a kit onto the Hesse receivers. They were notoriously out of spec. But, they were inexpensive so lots of folks gave them a whirl. Some got lucky and others didn't. Once the out of spec issues are addressed, a Hesse receiver is functionally as good as any other. I am not aware of any reports of receiver failures with Hesse. |

I've had a Century built on a Hesse FAL-H receiver since 2001 and have never had any problems with it. I have a numbers matching STG58 on a hesse from century. I just broke it down to put on a DSA receiver. I have collected enough odds and ends over the years to put back on the hesse. If my math is right I will have right at 100 dollars in it . The value of the STG kit makes the Hesse a freebie. It ran great from day one. |

Is that the 8mm conversion. Whats the mag from? I wish I would have had that when 8mm was so cheap. I would have abot 40000 rounds more of 308 now Edit.yup its 8mm now that I read it agian |

That's it right there. If you get a chance on a deal on a Hesse FAL that you can test-shoot, you may find that you've found yourself a bargain. Just got back from the range. Ran a few mags of old Radway Green (bought for $135 SHIPPED per 1K, ahh those were the days) through my Hesse/Century 16" carbine. Ran slicker'n snot.
Oh, almost forgot. Gas setting on 5. Mobil 1 on the bolt carrier. Zero (as always) stoppages. Not too shabby for a piece of "Hesse junk". |
| I have a G1 kit built on a Century receiver I bought back in 97 . It was out of spec, gas piston hole was off dremed and filed a little fixed it runs great with many different ammo did find I had some crappy mags FTF but if i had an extra 700 I would buy it. I like the g1 they offer. I paid 130.00 for my kit on ebay back when you could buy cool stuff and 199.00 for the receiver from FAC altogether around 500.00w/ 922 parts. Those days are long gone. The guys on FAL were very helpful and losts of good info on tweaking. LOL |
