How well does the Vortex flash supressor from SEI work on the FAL? I like it on the ARs I have, but I am considering getting it for the FAL as well. I don't mind the ping. |

I really enjoy it. It is a great gun. I can see why so many people like the FAL, I wish I would have gotten one sooner, but I'm glad that I got the one I did. Very, very nice. BTW, Tanren37 was who I bought my first FAL from. Good to hear, glad you like it. |

BTW, Tanren37 was who I bought my first FAL from. This has been my experience as well. I picked mine up a little over a week ago and I love it...so much in fact that I've decided to get out of ARs completely to finance mags, ammo, and a second FAL. suit on.

I have a DSA StG 58A with the std-length mil barrel. I tested every flash-suppressor I could obtain (except the Vortex) for its' effects on accuracy.
The results indicated that, with the std length mil bbl, the best accuracy was had with the heaviest muzzle devices. A shorter than std bbl might show different results. My expectation is that the shorter the barrel, the less important added muzzle weight becomes. I have not tested this hypothesis; it's just an educated guess, and reality might differ. That said, I settled on the Belgian combo device, as it did not add much length to the barrel, was the best in accuracy, would accept a bayonet, and would also accept a South-African clip-on muzzle compensator. Second place went to the Austrian OEM Stoll. The Brit-style Browning was a distant third, as were the shorty muzzle devices, such as the "Short Stoll", and others. The Vortex is about the size/mass of the short Stoll devices, FWIW. Again, the Vortex has a good rep for flash suppression, but if that comes at the expense of accuracy, what good is that? Again, I did not test the FAL Vortex ( I own some others, though) BUT, since it is clear that added mass/inertia at the end of the std length StG 58A barrel enhances accuracy, I'm fairly confident that the low-mass Vortex will result in reduced accuracy compared to units with more mass, if used on the aforementioned barrel.. |

Over the years I have seen many references to Vortex flash hiders actually increasing accuracy, mostly you see some variation on the "special helix design helps align exiting barrel gas to improve accuracy with all bullet types." Do a Google search and you'll find similar statements –– Smith Enterprise has some language like this at their web site as does Brownells in their Vortex ad: http://www.brownells.com/.aspx/pid=18711/Product/AR_15_M16_G6_A2_VORTEX_FLASH_HIDER I dont' know from personal experience if the increased accuracy claim is true. However, I too am trying to use only Vortex flash hiders on my rifles, mostly because I hope to purchase a Fisher DC sound suppressor at some point. B_D |

B_D I've heard the claim, but I don't recall seeing it substantiated. Since you want the Vortex in part to be able to mount a SS, rest assured that vortex units suppress flash quite well. |
