The optics thread inspired me to put some optics on my FAL. I need a mount for it.

How does the ARMS friction mount compare to the DSA mount?

Any problems with the ARMS?

I wouldn't own one... not even if it was free.

referring to an ARMS mount... I wouldn't give them a penny of my money.

I've run both Para and non-Para ARMS mounts for years. They work well for me & I've had no problems with the friction fit. Tried DSA mounts & they were solid but mared the receiver.

My .02.

Dick Swan from ARMS is working some pretty poor business practices these days, trying to eliminate his competition with lawsuits instead of by making better products (see LaRue industry forum for details). His MIM throw lever mounts have failed at critical times for soldiers in the sandbox, putting lives at risk.

That said, the FAL topcover market has limited options and the ARMS solution is a good one.
I have owned all of them except the Williams QD rails (which arguably would be the best) but sold them all to keep my ARMS mounts long before Dick Swan started playing these nasty games.

If I had an alternative I liked as much, I'd use it, but I never liked the DSA mount (too heavy, bulky) or the Tapco mount (looked cheap, weaver rail, not picatiny at the time, maybe its changed now.)
The ARMS mount was light, looked good, and was easy to put on and take off without impacting zero.

I hate owning anything from Swan, but I'll be keeping my FAL topcovers until LaRue or someone else comes out with a superior product.

I used an ARMS mount for several years on an Imbel receiver.  Either the mount was out of spec or the receiver was.  The mount had excessive fore and aft play.  Due to the clamp-less design of the mount, there was really nothing I could do about it.

Sold it and bought another DSA.

It sickens me to remember what I did to fund that ARMS mount-  As I had just bought my first FAL, I was jonesing to put a scope on it real quick.  Funds were tight, so I sold a like-new Colt Cadet stainless steel pistol for just enough to fund the purchase
