What a long an circuitous route building this rifle has been....

The impetus was running across a "too good to be true" deal in DSA's tent at Knob Creek abck in '07.  I found their US Made Para barrel for $100.  Their "loaded" para lower assembly with US internals, US Pistol grip, US stock, US para bold carrier, and US para top cover was $400 (check the price on all that stuff today!  Just the receiver costs that much).  I snapped the stuff up, and searched Knob Creek for the parts I'd need to complete the build (small parts, Metric bolt, etc).  Sadly no deals were to be had, and DSA wanted to charge me $180 for the "small parts" I required.  At the time you could get an Imbel kit or an SA kit for that much.

So I trundled home with my para kit, and ordered my DSA receiver.  At the time, DSA wait periods for receivers were 6-12 months.
So I waited.  It eventually showed up.

In the mean time, I came into the possession of a factory Imbel para barrel.  It was NIB when the rifle had to be destroyed abroad.  I promised to give it a good home, and it was mine.
I sold my DSA barrel for about what DSA was asking for them on their website, and I was pretty

happy.

I bought a parts kit from a buddy to pillage a bolt and small parts from, and will soon offer the remainder of that Imbel kit for sale.

Pretty soon, I had all the parts in place...I just needed to have the rifle assembled.

A couple months ago, I took it to my buddy who builds these for a living, and said, "Get to it when you can..."

I didn't get it Gunkoted yet, as I'm debating on what exactly I want done, but even so, it's  not bad looking.  As stated, the barrel was brand new when installed, only fired at the Imbel factory, as the cache the barrel comes from was still in the box and in comsmoline when seized.

Aside from Gunkoting it, I'm thinking a QD bipod if DSA still has them in stock.

I hope to shoot it tomorrow, so stand by for a range report.

Nice! Would love to have a para, or a standard FAL for that matter! How hard would it be to put one of those together your self?

No harder than building a standard FAL, if you have the correct parts.

As long as you can build and headspace a standard FAL, a para should be no problem. :)

You mean you haven't applied some kind of finish already in the pics? I think it looks great as-is. You'll be more tempted to shoot it less if you make it nicer looking.

Very, very nice !!

I sure would like to have a para to go with my full size Imbel.

I'd skip the barrel mounted bi-pod as they really change the point of impact, like 12" high at 100 yds!

For optics, I suggest you consider an ARMS para scope mount and an Aimpoint w/2MOA dot.

Well done,

EMSflyer

You have more problems than a bipod if it's shooting that far off.
PB are you going to shoot it at the match?

Looks great! One of my para's is dressed like yours, in basic black, but I did have it Duracoated. It's the only FAL I have not sporting wood.
I love it..

Thanks ALOT guys! Now I want a para to keep my Imbel happy since my FAL & AR15 don't always get along! LOL!

All of the Para's pictured look great! From the picture I couldn't tell that it wasn't already Duracoated. Very nice rifles guys.

Maybe I was lucky but I cut mine down to SAmer para  length and it then shot lower on sand bags than it used too but with the pod it's right on. The great thing now is when I shoot with the pod it's dead on with the rear sight back and perfect on bags with the sight up one. Shoots good too. Oh, and it's more like 7" difference but I have a stiffer barrel since the flash hider goes all the way to the bod.

Hey, my all Imbel FAL is a straight shooter, a little less than 2 MOA with Winchester Silver Tips.

The last time a used the bi-pod, the POI (with surplus ammo) shifted up by almost a foot.
Maybe it was the combo of ammo, a warm barrel and perhaps pulling back on the bi-pod a little too much.
I don't know, just reporting what I saw.

After that I took the bi-pod off and it lives in a box now.

I'm sure the bi-pod is OK for full-auto surpressive fire, but not so much for aimed
semi-auto. Of course you could zero it for bi-pod use like I used to do for my Izzy HB FAL.

I predect you will perfer your Para without the bi-pod.

The bi pod is the suck, I take them off as soon as I get the rifle home.

Looks great.  Maybe a nice smooth gloss black paint...

They are expensive to build (I've been collecting parts), but still way cheaper than a real 50.63.  I have US the made barrel and a heavy steel Rhody lower.

You guys with the para FALs are killing me....

Yesterday one of my buddies stopped by the office and he still had his para in the truck
from his trip to his farm. So we got to play with it. Wish I could have shot it.

I'm really going to have to figure out how to get one.

Mr. PitbullofLove, Have you shot yours yet?

Not yet.  Bad weather caused shooting cancellation.

This week for sure though :D

Went to the range with it today.

Shot 70's dated Indian ammo

Only shot at 25m as I had several rifles to zero today and daylight was fading....

Shot from the mat, prone with an ammo can and small sand bag on the can.

Once I had her dialed in, I could keep all 5 rounds in a ragged hole.

I was shooting at a paper plate with a 1"-1.5" spray of black paint in
the center. No problem at all keeping all 5 rds in that circle, and it
did easily whenever asked.

I did have to bottom out the front sight, and I have to take a "Sig
Combat" type of hold on the target (hold center mass...not 6-o'clock).

Recoil was surprisingly mild.

Should be a good shooter, as Moses predicted when he screwed it together, owing to the cherry barrel.
