I am very new to FAL's and was hoping someone could tell me about this rifle. It is a model M444 metric FAL made by Israli Arms Inc. with a Imbel gear logo reciever and I paid 1000$ OTD. It is in excellant condition and comes with 2 mags. I did read somewhere that the muzzle break did not very well on this model and that they were working on correcting it with an improved muzzel break, how do I tell which muzzle break I have? Who has the best deal on mags right now and did I get a good deal?

The IAI M-444 is the closest thing you can buy to a factory Imbel FAL.

They were shipped from Imbel as barreled uppers and complete lowers and the were "assembled" in the US..

I didn't know that.

First time I've heard this. Source of the information?

I've had one of these for several years but have never fired it. I know there was a bad brake on the first run of these rifles that actually increased the recoil.

ETA: Here's some good information on your rifle:

I replaced the charging handle and gas piston on my rifle so I wouldn't have to worry about which magazine to use for US compliance parts.

Wrong! They were built using stripped IMBEL receivers on surplused Chilean IMBEL made kits.

IMBEL did not ship these as barreled uppers. IAI did all the assembly in Houston. I had one and regret selling it. I had IGF take off the HESSE brake and put on a DSA brake to help with the "bitch slap" the Hesse brake caused.

One of my previous FAL's was an M444.

It's a good FAL except for the muzzle brake(recoil enhancer).

Now that it's post 2004 (so far...) if yours has to fake FH/muzzle brake
device you can have it removed and have a real FN flash hider/combo device
installed.

You can tell the difference by looking at the end of the muzzle device, if it has a small
hole, just slightly larger than the bullet dia then it's the fake flash hider/muzzle brake.

If it has a large threaded hole then it's the real FN style flash hider/combo device and is good to go.
