Ok, so I ordered a Century Metric FAL receiver. It finally arrives and it is unfinished, I dont just mean no park, I mean I need a friggin machine shop to make parts fit and give it a finished look. I spent 40 minutes with a file just to get it to lock up with the lower. Now it fits nice and tight, but the mags are hit and miss on how well they fit. They lock in nice, but getting them out is a real bitch. I have taken the file to the inside of the magwell and smoothed it up a lot, but it still makes for a tough removal. Also, the damn dust cover has a noticeable gap at the front where the receiver curves up. Overall, I'd rate this as a 4 out of 10, with 4 being generous since the anointed one descended today.
OK, done with the rant, does anyone have any suggestions for the mags? I'm sure someone else has run into this before. I am only interested in building a reliable shooter, not a pageant winner, so ideas are welcome. Thanks, Kev |
| Those sound like all the problems I had when I built mine a couple years ago. I used a sanding drum on a dremel to smooth out the magwell. There are large and small diameter drums. Use the small ones for corners. I blasted it to make the surface more even and for cosmetic reasons. You may also have to cut the mag catch, I did a little on mine. |

Check out this review from member Bug Tussell over on the FALfiles.com.
Initially, he is talking about the Century's newer production receivers (around 2006 time frame). Several folks jump in toward the end of the thread talking about the unfinished receivers. There might be some information you can use. Good luck! |

Yes, I bought it from MGS. Not happy with it at all since I could have gotten a Dan Coonan for less money (from what I read a lot less headaches) and finished. |
