I saw this on Atlantic Firearms, wondering if it is a good gun. Thanks.

I have heard that they are better than a Century build, but not as good as a DSA build.

They use a Imbel receiver, thats a big plus.

If I had the money, I would get one.

Not an Imbel receiver.  It's an Imbel kit on an Entreprise Type 3 receiver.

I've used one of their older receicvers and had no problems with them.  No personnal info on the current run.

Personnally, I think the price is a tad hi.  If it's been completely refinished, maybe.

I object to the "junky, worn out kits built by others" comment.

Check out the Market place over on the FALfiles.com.  There might have been an Imbe/Imbel combo for $800 recently.

So whats the difference between different FAL rifles, and what makes some better?

The quality of the parts
The quality of the builder

FALs are either preban FN/Browning/Steyr imports, DSArms factory rifles, or rifles built from kits using 922r US made compliance parts. Generally, you want a rifle which has quality parts, meaning not worn out (if MILSURP) and of good material/manufacture (if US Made part). The most important US part is the receiver, and the best is the forged DSArms receiver. All other US receivers are cast.

The quality of the build is self-explanitory. If preban factory FAL, it's going to be very good, as is DSArms. Everything else is a "depends". Century guns are hit/miss, and vulcan or hesse rifles are to be avoided. Other than that you need to look at the reputation of the builder.

Hummm....so the DSA is the best, do they make the recievers only, or do they actually manufacture the guns themselves in the US with the US parts? Just curious, does an FAL have a stamped or machined reciever, and what kind of material is the reciever made of in actual mil-spec FN FAL's?

DSA makes the SA58 rifle complete, all US parts. They also build STG58 Steyr rifle kits.
DSA receivers are milled 4140 steel, some are stainless. FN receivers started out forged ordnance steel (in the 1950s steel grades were different, not like today; theres no "milspec" or number associated to the carbon content), and later moved to cast.

Just curious, does the origional FN designs call for chrome lining in the bore/chamber? If so, does the DSA include this?

Thanks

The DSA SA58 and later STG58s have no chrome lining, button rifled barrel. The older STG58s which were complete kits with surplus hammer-forged barrels have a chrome-lined chamber only; Izzy, G1, and some Imbel surplus rifles I believe have full chrome lining.
