First of all let me say I know very little about the FAL platform. I'm wanting to add a .308 battle rifle to my collection and after doing a little research on M14's, 91's, & FAL's I've decide to go the FAL route. I'm liking the FAL over the others basically due to parts availability, mag prices, & I just like the way they look & feel.

So here's my question. I like many others don't have unlimited funds & would like to be able to afford to buy some ammo for what ever rifle I purchase . I'm looking at these 2 rifles  at Atlantic but can't make up my mind on which way to go. I've heard good things about the DSA STG58 but don't know much about the Imbel kit they have listed which is $200 cheaper than the DSA.

Any opinions?

The IMBEL kit build won't be quite as high quality as the STG kit, but then again those great STG Steyr barrels that helped make the Austrian kits a lot nicer ran out long ago.

Either one is probably going to be pretty good.

To me there is not much difference in the kits, yes the STG has a better reputation but both are very good.
If you're just looking for something to put in the safe and shoot once or twice then saving $200 might be good. If you're thinking you might one day use the rifle to defend yourself I would look at things other than the price tag.  What I would base the decision on is the receiver, the US made compliance parts, the manufacturer’s reputation, warranty, and resale value.

Receiver:
DSA wins here, the Enterprise receiver is cast, DSA is forged from a solid block. I don’t believe you can find a knowledgeable person who would argue that the two are even close to equal. Not to disparage the Enterprise it can work fine and plenty of cast receivers have given good durable service but DSA is in another league.

Compliance parts:
DSA wins here, I’m not sure who makes the compliance parts for Enterprise but there are many reports of parts failures with some of the other US made parts, especially hammer, trigger, and sear. These are not parts I want to have fail on a rifle and DSA has by far the best reputation for quality here.

Manufacturer’s reputation:
Well Enterprise is improving in reputation, but DSA is still in the lead.

Warranty:
DSA looks like they lose here to the Atlantic Enterprise as they show a lifetime on the website. DSA is 1 year on the STG line and lifetime only on the SA line.
But will the other company be in business in the long run?

Resale value: DSA rifles bring more than Enterprise now and they will not only hold their value better they will sell easier because they have the better reputation.

Just my thought's hope it helps you decide what is best for you.

terrance250,

DSA all the way for sure - I own an STG-58 and G1...fit, finish, function, accuracy and reliability are all there and then some!

Thanks for the replies thus far.

I've contacted DSA in hopes they'll be at Knob Creek next weekend. With any luck maybe I'll drag home a new rifle.

I'm with Justin...doesn't matter.

I've built 30+ FALs on various kits...they all ran fine.
