I don't know much about FALs except for what I have is an L1A1. It's an Imbel receiver on a British Enfield lower. I do know that this is a metric rifle for sure. What I'm curious about is whether a front end purchased from DSA can be placed on this rifle without any problems. The front end: http://www.dsarms.com/prodinfo.asp?number=00120SCM I know a lot of you guys are a fountain of knowledge when it comes to FALs, so I was hoping for some advice or just some info. Thanks. |

Actually the British parts are not metric. Your rifle is a hybrid of both with the imbel reciever being metric. I believe the DSA front end will go on fine you'll just have to have it timed and headspaced properly. Neither of which are too complicated, many do it yourselfer types accomplish them at home. But they are very important for a good and safe rifle. |
| just take old barrel off and put new barrel on check headspace if it is off remove the locking shoulder and use gage pins to find the correct size locking shoulder that will be needed to headspace it correctly very easy to do if you have some realatively inexspesive tools I believe a reciever wrench is in the $50 range a set of gages about $40 dollars and if you need gage pins any of the machinist supply houses have them for a few dollars each a $10 dial caliper should let you know which way you need to go compared to your existy locking shoulder. For instance if your headspace is to tight after installing barrel you would remove the locking shoulder and measure it order a couple of gage pins that are smaller that you could use to find the correct size order that size install it (locking shoulder) test headspace again and if ok test fire. check again periodically for the first 100 or so rounds to see if anything seated in and changed that is what I would do enjoy |
