I am just curious if there is enough aftermarket products out there that I could essentially build my own FAL or at least be able to assemble most of it. The reasons I would like to do this is, I don't want to dump 2 grand on a BR right away, I would rather be able to do it part by part until it is finished over time. And I think one appreciates it more if you can assemble it yourself.

you could do it part for part, but the easiest and most common way is to buy a parts kit (go metric) and than just buy the required number of US made parts and a receiver and then build it.

Also check Gun Parts Guy, his kits are top notch, all refinished and he is a great guy to work with.

Find someone with tools you can borrow.  They go together really easily.  I assembled mine from an STG0-58 kit and assorted parts I picked up from Gun Parts Guy.  The barrel is the most technical part to install.  If it doesn't time right to the receiver you may need to take few thousandths of an inch off.  From there just tighten it up and figure out which locking shoulder you need for proper headspace.
