I saw an Imbel gear logo receiver this weekend but it was marked 2005. When did they halt the import of Imbel receivers that can be used to build a new (US parts compliant) rifle??? I was told that these receivers are available for the replacement of an existing broken imbel receiver only. Is this true and how would one know what it is for? Is it a different form to fill out? WARNING Imported Replacement (also currently referred to as Post Ban) receivers cannot be built as they were imported under the strict REPLACEMENT COMPONENT ONLY directive and as such is restricted to only replacement to an documented d ama ged/destroyed receiver. |
Absolutely false. |
Why oh why would Entreprise want to convey that message? ("Warning" is from Entreprise website.) Could it have anything to do with them making their own receiver? They sold those same imported receivers before they were banned from import. If it is a good deal buy it and build it. |
Ummm.....not totally false..... www.atf.gov/pub/ffl/2001/may/p5.htm Might also want to take a look at this link to the FALfiles, especially at Court's posts regarding this topic www.falfiles.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=60716&pagenumber=2 |

Accordingly, ATF will no longer approve ATF Form 6 applications for importation of any frames, receivers, or barrels for firearms that would be prohibited from importation if assembled. No exceptions to the statutory language, for example for “repair or replacement” of existing firearms, will be allowed. http://www.atf.gov/firearms/071305openletter.htm This was posted July 13, 2005 |
From what I have researched ATF could be dicks on this issue but for now they are busy with other things. They write these laws to interpret either way. On one hand the AWB has sunset and this should not apply since these "look alike FALS" are not AWs. But they have not changed their stance on receiver imports. It does appear that they let to many repair/replacement receivers in country and then in '05 they nixed the entire deal. Lets just hope they do not start knocking on doors after '08... |
