Is there a post anywhere? Is the barrel threaded under the break? My FAL is a DSA SA58 with 21" barrel.

Thanks in advance.

If you have a gun built during the ban '94 to '04 I believe the muzzle break is integral. I have an SA58C (16") from the ban days and it has no threads under the break.

If you're looking to change the break, I do not see any reason the break could not be cut off and threaded for a flash suppressor.

Were you able to change out your brake on your 16"? How is yours attached pinned and welded? I too have a shorty carbine and am wanting to put a longer permanant FH on it.

I have not tried to change it, I have two other FALs with flash hiders so it's not a priority and the misses likes to shoot it since it recoils a bit less. As for the muzzle break it is neither pinned nor welded, the barrel was machined from one piece of metal with the break on the end. Source for this is from on of the PDF articles on DSA's website - I don't recall which one.

I have no doubt a decent gunsmith could cut and thread the barrel; I may be mistaken but I just don't think there is enough room to keep it over 16 inches after cutting it. If it does fall under 16 inches you could still install a flash hider it would just have to be permanently attached.

Thanks. I think I may just buy another longer barrel for mine. Maybe something 18". The muzzle blast off my carbine is annoying to everyone around me.
