Anybody ever shot any of this stuff? I picked up several thousand rds today in a trade, I don't know much about except its from Venezuela and it's reloadable. |

Measure it and compare the case length and over all length to a military 7.62. The reason I am telling you this I had an M60 E3 built back in the 90s and the builder told me never to use cavin 7.62. He said it would jam in M60s because it was a shorter round. I never measured it and I styed away from it. He said the 30-06 was good. Dane |
| I was thinking that Cavim was Berdan primed and non-reloadable? I hope I'm wrong as I have an unopened case at home myself. The only thing that I remember people complaining about was the varnish on the cases that would clog up HK weapons due to their fluted chambers I believe. |

Cavim 7.62x51mm NATO dated 1991 and more recent should be boxer primed. Earlier stuff may be berdan... CAVIM 7.62mm NATO ammo is known to be built to the long end of the milspec for 7.62mm NATO ammo. You should have no problems shooting it in rifles chambered for 7.62mm NATO, but might have some problems in rifles assembled with tight chambers (like many of the current kit guns end up). The CAVIM 7.62mm NATO ammo is also known to have slightly soft cartrdige cases, and much of it used a black, tar-like bullet sealer that has presented problems in some fluted chamber guns. I have shot quite a bit of the CAVIM 7.62mm NATO ammo and like it quite a bit. If you have 1990s dated CAVIM and don't want it, let me know... Forrest |

I've shot quite a bit of it, and have reloaded quite a bit of its (boxer) brass. It is soft. So soft that the expander ball will stretch the case out past specs when it is withdrawn from the case during sizing (as shown to be the case when subsequently using a case gauge). Fortunately, the brass is so soft, that it will then resize itself when chambered .Other than those things, everything has been otherwise uneventful. |

Well my case of Cavim is dated 19 Ago 1991 so it "should" be reloadable, I ran across some 20 round boxes of Cavim brass in them that I'd shot years ago and it's Berdan primed (lot # on box is A10-14 and brass is dated '81) compared to another box that is Boxer primed (lot # on box is ANFCN03 and brass is dated '91). Fistpoint I don't know if the lot #'s off my boxes will help you or not determining Boxer or Berdan but maybe you'll get lucky and be able to see either of these #'s thru the clear plastic. |
