I got a new charging handle knob and rivet to replace the factory one on my StG58....How do I remove the old one? TIA |

First you have to remove the locking spring and detent that are inside the knob part of the charge handle, there is a small set pin in the charge handle rail. Then, either drill the rivit post from inside the knob, or carefully cut the knob and rivit head off from the outside. Assemble the new parts on the charge handle and flare out the new rivit post on the inside of the knob with a hammer and punch. Use a small nut to fit in the recess on the top of the knob to provide positive tension, and something to protect the finish on the rivit head. If you're careful, you can regulate the amount of tension on the knob rotation by the amount of flaring you do on the rivit post inside the knob. |
