hi folks, i'm thinking of getting a DSA SA58 OSW [11"]. it would be my first FAL. any opinions and/or folks who own one that can share any info? thanks! ron |

I'll bite. I own a DSA with an 18" bbl, and love it. It's accurate, reliable, and can shoot through engine blocks. I havn't fired the 11" verison, but I've heard if you miss them with the bullet, the flame will take them out. The SBR version looks cool (so does any SBR) but for this weapon, I don't see the point. SBR are for close in work, where you want something short and handy. Even with a 11" bbl, the rifle is still long, due to the long action of the 7.62mm round, companed to an SMG. It's going to be heavy, and I can't imagine what firing it in a closed area at night would do to your hearing and night vision. I guess the bad guys would suffer too, but it's just not a good combo. I doubt the ballistics from an 11" are that good either, as 7.62mm is designed to be fired from a 18-20" bbl, so you may end up wasting a lot of the power with a less that full burn of the powder, and poor accuracy. I'd get a 16 or 18" DSA and rock on, and get a shorty AR for the SBR. But it does look cool, and that's nice too. |

thanks for the responses. i guess i'm just drawn to another SBR [i have a POF SBR build going on right now] and i don't have a .308 semi-auto. i'm not knocking down doors serving high-risk warrants or anything; it's just a toy for me- go to the range, make lots of noise, etc. besides, its secondary use as a flamethrower is a nice touch. kevind: how stout is the recoil, say, compared to an AK-47? |

nice photos! you guys are whetting my appetite even more for this thing… zero to $2K can happen so quickly. does anyone know if the noveske KX3 will work for it? until i get a can for it, of course… ron ps: i saw that big sky guns online has one in stock for $2100. it's set up nicely w/ the rail system, etc. + no 12-14 week wait from DSA. i've e.mailed them and inquired already. yikes. |

ron, You're getting a hell of a weapon. I deal with Mike for all my transfer needs. Last time I was up there I handled the weapon you're getting. Totally sweet. That's what got my post started (see above). You beat me to the punch. Mike is a great guy to deal with. Congrats! |

thanks, sunnybean– didn't mean to snake your rifle, but i made the executive decision right there while talking with him. mike seems like a real stand-up guy and i feel confident dealing with him. when we spoke he told me he "wouldn't be sad if it didn't sell." can't say that i blame him. it looks totally sweet and i like what i've been hearing so far. he even ordered a can for it. he said he'd probably get another one for himself [with the fun button], pretty much assuring that it would stay in the shop. i will keep you posted. i told my C3 dealer what was headed his way [they've done business with mike before, i think]and he sounded eager to see it, too. thanks for all the advice, gents. will post photos when it's in my possession. ron |
There's a write up in combat arms also unless this is the same article.
