Do you think the new Barnaul 308 ammo at wideners.com will shoot OK in my FN?
They say it is zinc/nickel plated steel, non-corrosive? I have never tried Russian steel case ammo in it, but the pictures of the ammo look pretty nice. The 168gr soft point would go nice on my steel swingers.

Fal's are pretty much famous for being able to digest some of the worst ammo made. A guess? No problem. Adjust the gas system as you would for any other ammo, and have fun.

I have a couple of boxes of those Barnaul ammo...but I haven't tried them yet.
I've tried Wolf and never had a problem...sure they aren't match grade ammo but they go bang every time I pull the trigger.
I think Wolf and Barnaul are similar if not the same.

If memory servers me right the Barnaul in AK ammo is considered one of the more accurate ones.

The Silver Bear .308 has a thin case and spilt a shell case in both a Cetme and a Vector 91. But never had a problem with it in the FAL

I have a bit of experience with the zinc plated Barnaul .308 in a FAL.  As recently as last friday, in fact.

It is loaded rather light, so you have to adjust your gas setting in order for it to cycle properly.  IIRC, the sales propaganda states that it zips along at an anemic 2400 fps(maybe I'm thinking of Wolf?).  It might even be worse, as ammo manufacturers tend to overstate velocity with regards to a typical barrel.

The zinc plating corrodes rather easily, leaving a gritty texture.  This exacerbates the cycling issue previously noted.

Other than that, it goes bang when you pull the trigger.  Accuracy wasn't too impressive, but it might very well have just been me.  I shot a bit better with some Remington Core-Lokt reloads, though.

ETA> Barnaul's powder burns quite filthy.

Shoot this ammo in your Saiga when plnk'in. It goes bang but not much else going for it.
