Think I figured out how to do it. Raw material: 2 L1A1 safety/selector levers. Modify the left-hand one as required to work in your rifle. Maybe not necessary. Cut thumbpad off other lever. Remove detent ball, and mill to thickness of other thumbpad. With proper steel stock, shape mirror image of left-hand safety lever arm. Braze/weld/silver-solder pad so that you now have a mirror image of the left-hand lever. Braze/weld/silver-solder a short stub to the pivot point of the new (right-hand) lever arm. Use the original shaft from the safety. Mill a male square on the end of the original (left-hand) safety shaft. Mill a female square in the stub of the new, (right-hand) pivot shaft. Test-fit for clearance and operation. Adjust as req'd. While assembled, drill and tap from the right side for a round head machine screw to hold the right-hand lever affixed to the shaft of the left-hand lever. Bead-blast and finish. I plan on doing up some drawings and having my gunsmith doing this. Any suggestions? Oh, and I've got some ideas on ambi-mag releases, too. |
