I see century fals on gunbroker for around $600 or so, since I'm searching for my first FAL is this a good rifle to buy or should I try my hand at building? I've researched how to build one and it doesnt seem too difficult (I've built 1911s, AKs and ARs). But I'm not sure if buying the tools for a one time build would be cost effective (plus I might mess something up which would mean more money spent). I want to keep it in the 600 or less range by the way... What do you experienced guys think? |

No century receiver please. Actually, I won't buy anything that has Century logo stamped on it. You can pick up nicely built FALs for around $700 on Falfiles if you give it a couple weeks. I picked one up for $600 just last year. It can be done. As far as the receiver goes, I'd stick with DSA, DCI, or Imbel. |

i would build. but thats just me. i like to know how my rifle works, and how it was put together. it can eb done for fairly cheap,a nd then you get the fun of picking the stuff out that you want on it. i am considering leaving my current build with the "african look" IE the shitty cammo paint job |

I haven't personnally encountered one, but others have had bad experiences with the older "unibrow" receivers. Quality control issues seemed to me to be the biggest complaint I've heard. I've built 3 FALs using Century receivers. No issues with any and I'm no gunsmith, just a garage tinkerer. Check out the "Cheap FAL Build" thread further down the forum page. |
