| What is the out of the Box accuracy of a standard DSA Fal? Is it 1" MOA, 2" MOA or what? Also what would be the out of the box accuracy of the DSA 21" bull barrel with free float tube? |

YMMV... out of the box accuracy is build-dependent, varies with the type of ammo you're using, gas setting, barrel length, and so on. FAL's are battle rifles, and DSA FAL's high-quality examples of an MBR. The DSA's I've handled, including my own are in the 2 MOA range for barrels ranging from 18" to 21" using surplus ammo on a properly adjusted gas system. It will be hard to get one of these rifles into the 1 MOA range without spending a lot of money accurizing it. I have one that's been accurized (18" Para Congo Custom) by the smiths at DSA/Badger, barrel work, head-spacing, etc., along with a match trigger. Including the parts, the accurization work ran right at $800. This rifle performs in the 1.5" - 2 MOA range consistently when used with quality ammo. Accuracy is also shooter-dependent... |
Agreed... that was kind of my (perhaps too subtle) point - FAL's are battle rifles, and you reach the point of diminishing returns fast on accurization efforts... if sub MOA accuracy is what you're after, the best bet is a bolt rifle. The $800 expenditure in my case was an (albeit expensive) experiment to see what could be achieved for less than $1K on a DSA rifle. Also keep in mind that the DSA rifles are expensive to begin with - the $800 accurization expenditure represented about 25% of the rifle's price less the optics and mount. FWIW, the first .306/7.62 semi-auto rifle I had as an AR-10. Even though it had great out of the box accuracy, it was tempermental, and I sold it in favor of the FAL. I'm not biased against AR's, I have several 5.56mm rifles - I think the higher caliber and Stoner-style gas system on the AR-10 weren't a good match when combined with the need for ingesting a wide range of ammo. |

I have an Imbel/StG58 build (I sold an ARS build!!!!) and it is good for 2" with surp. With my handloads and it's heavy ass trigger I can sometimes get 1.5" @ 100 yards but that is not what it is about. It is a major caliber battle rifle, proven all over the world by over 90 countries, that will go bang all the time, everytime. AK relibility in a .308. Good Luck Bill |
