I have an AAC 762SD on order and may aquire a mount for my FAL.  Have any of you suppressed your FALs and if so, are there any issues I should be concerned with?  I plan on having my barrel cut to 16" and threaded for the mount.  It is currently at 18".

If you have a suppressed FAL, pictures would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Gary

Tag because I've been thinking the same thing. Maybe a FAL and an AR10.

Gus,

Several firms are working on uppers for the AR10 style rifles.  The SHOT show had examples of the SASS rifle from several competing firms.  Also, I understand the gas piston guys are also getting into the AR10 market with uppers.  The thing I really like about the 762SD from AAC is that is in interchangeable on most all .308 platforms.  This way I could buy one suppressor and several low cost mounts and be able to suppress my FAL, my tactical rifle and a future AR10 style rifle.

It seemed to me a smart approach seeing as I can only shoot one at a time and a good .308 suppressor runs around $800-$1000 plus $200 to Uncle Sam and all the inherent paperwork of the NFA process.

Regards,
Gary

the only issue I had with going from 18 to 16" was that I had to open my gas port in the barrel by one size after that it ran awesome. you will have to mess with the gas system a little to after you put the can on differnt volume of gas with the can attached. love my fal at 16 looking at a can for it right now have it with an a2 birbcage right now

TalonArms,

Anything I should be aware of when suppressing my FAL.  The rifle functioned to your satisfaction?  No mis-fires or gas issues etc?  I expect to have a 16"-18" barrel on mine.

Thanks,
Gary

Is there a quick detach mounting setup available in both 1/2 28 and the 5/8 thread used in the AR10 that is a compatible mount for a known .30 can??

Seems the FAL would be an ideal choice for a suppressed rifle; if you want to be very low-profile you can switch the gas system to "grenade" mode so the action won't cycle automatically, eliminating more noise and casings flying around.

I have the gas port open all the way.  Works like a champ!

I have not tried it on a 16"+ bbl.

My friend has a DSA 16", short gas system with a bi-lock installed.  (Gemtech TPR-S 7.62 can--pre HVT)

The gas valve must be opened all the way for good cycling, but it runs great.

It is louder than a bolt gun with the same can, likely due to the gas system itself.  You really nee to wear plugs, but the blast is substantially reduced, and recoil is nil.

I'd love to try an AAC with their quick-attach system on an 18" long gas system.

You guys live in the wrong country some of the time, an over barrel suppressor for an M4 or a FN FAL/L1A1 cost $325:00NZD thats about $180:00USD, and there's no tax or fee to the government. It's just a shame it's so bloody difficult to import all those good bits that are produced in the states.

Cheers from NZ

Cheers back at ya!  NZ is one of the few places outside the US that I plan to see some day. Our family almost moved there when I was a kid.
