Is it possible to start a thread for surplus ammo.  I'm trying to save my Aussie and find something else for target practice. There are a lot of choices and I'm kind of clueless when it comes to this stuff.  All I used was Indian, Aussie and SA.  I love Aussie.  SA is okay and Indian ammo will never see the chamber of my FAL again.

So if it is close to or better than Aussie, I would like to know.

BTW, how is '70s & '80s production manufactured by Herstal, Belgium and Late 70s - early 80s production out of Pakistan ammo?

Any advice?

All I can find at gun shows these days is SA. I long for the days of  200rd. battle packs of Portugese.

I've been shooting Argentinian surplus that I get at the gunshow. Haven't head any problems other than cullin some rounds with corrosion.  Looks like Outdoor Marksman has some available.

There are usually a few threads floating around in the ar15 ammo forum about .308 . I like the paki stuff its cheap and i havent had a problem with it. Argentinan is also nice but you will lose several rounds to corrosion.

Thanks for the replies.  I just ordered 50rds of '70s & '80s production manufactured by Herstal, Belgium with "FN" headstamp, 250rds of Late 70s - early 80s production out of Pakistan, and 150rds of '70s production mil. surplus with "OFV" headstamp. I'm going to see which one I like the best.

What is the '70s production mil. surplus with "OFV" headstamp? I ordered it because of the low price.  I hope that it is not garbage.

Nevermind, I did a search over at the FAL FILES and found out that OFV headstamp = Indian ammo . I'm going to change my order.

The '70s ofv is pretty good stuff actually.  It's the '90s dated stuff that you want to stay away from.

For anything you might need it for.  Cause it isn't readily available any more.  I like to shoot what is plentiful at the time, save what I can.

YMMV

I received my order of ammo. I took my scoped FAL out today to try it out. I could only shoot at 50 yards. I have mixed results. I think the Pakistan ammo had a tighter group. I notice that the Belgium ammo was hotter than Aussie and shot 2 1/2" low. I had one FTE with a Belgium round after 80rds. Everything else cycled with no problem. I want to take my FAL out again and shoot at 100 yards. I still don't know which one I like better, the Belgium or Pakistan ammo.

Anyone else care to share they results, experience, or preference with these two?

My advice. Stay away from the SA battle packs. They are all mine!

The Indian 70s ammo on strippers is fine. I have Port, South African, Izzy, FN and US. But for shooting at cans, Indian is more than good enough. I fired some wolf not to long ago and it was another one that I will be ordering large quanities when my supply runs down. For new ammo it is very cheap.

Went to the range today and shot at 100 yds.  I like the Belgium ammo.  I got better groupings with it.  I just ordered 1500rds of Belgium.

Sportmans warehouse just had this special 250rnd @ 42 bucks..

SA is going for 22 per 140 rnds Port 200 rnds 35 at the show in Texas today.

The SA is still out there with plenty regardless of what people try and say.
