I have an ARMS scope mount (replaces bolt cover) on my FAL (STG58), it seems to work ok as a solid scope mount base, but I have jams occasionaly from brass getting stuck in the ejection port. It seems the ejection port on the ARMS cover is smaller than the one in original cover.

I'd like to try this rifle in IPSC with an optic ... but the ARMS cover make it not as reliable as it needs to be.

Anyone have one of these and experiencing the same problem?

have you tried adjusting your gas system?

Yes, I get the same type jams regardless of gas system settings.

Do you have one of these? does the gas system adjustments help?

I dont have the arms one, I do have a Tapco and a DSA one. What i found is that you have to have the gas adjusted just right and the chamber has to be polished...and try some differnt brass. Mine only likes really clean and polished brass.

Interesting.

I noticed that the brass is now ejecting further from the rifle with the ARMS top cover installed rather than with the sheet metal top.

No changes in gas system,  all mil-surplus ammo.

The return to Zero is not an issue either,  so far.

Good luck

I tried the Tapco stripper clip scope rail top cover and had nothing but problems.

I think that mounting system on there tightens the receiver so much that it causes the gun to hang up. I tossed mine.
Forget what I paid but it was a seriouse waste of $$.

I've got a ARMS mount that replaces the carrier shrould.  Its an older model that fits on extremely tightly and has never lost zero with the 3x Leupold.  I have also never experienced any problem with either cover.  Look at your mount and do you see the area where your hang ups are occuring.  ARMS mounts are usually aluminum so can and do you want to take a dremel tool and open that area up?

it sounds like my mount is identical to yours, extremely tight fit, I have to tap the upper reciever with a rubber hammer to make it lock on to the lower reciever with the ARMS cover in place.

yes, the ejection port is very battered in one area, I had thought about grinding on it. I just wish the ARMS mount had the same size opening as the original.

Since no one else seems to be having these problems, I am now wondering if there is something not quite right with my extractor. maybe it is throwing the brass out at an incorrect angle .... I may be asking for close-up pics of FAL bolt faces.

I have a DSA scope mount/top cover on mine and I have also had some problems with reliability of the rifle.  Seems sometimes it jams.  I have fully broken it in now and they are infrequent but I wouldn't want to bet $100 that I could empty 5 magazines without a jam.  And this is after sending it back to DSA.

It is reliable enough now for funsies and I ain't gonna be in a situation where I'm getting shot at so I'm going to run a few 1000 rounds through it and see if it all smooths out.

No problems here. Brass gets thrown clear every time.
