There are 308 mags for the Bren and then there are the 303 Brittish Bren Mags.  I am not familiar with what is needed but I can say that you will not be able to use a 303 bren mag with the FAL or at least not with a 308 cartridge...

Perhaps I misunderstood the guy. or he didn't(aswell as I) know what he was talking about. he said that it was a converted bren mag. oh well thanks

No, you were correct... there are 308 Bren Mags and those can work with the FAL...  You just need to make sure you don't try to buy and use 303 Bren mags...

Here is a Bren Mk1 with 303 Mags... note how curved they are!

Here is a FAL on the EE with a 30-rd mag that is reported to be a Bren Mag:

Like I said, I am no expert here...!  I just wanted to make sure you realized that MOST Bren mags are 303 and will not work.  It is the 308 Bren Mags that you need to find...

Mine just looks like new front and rear locking tabs were soldered on the body.

I've converted one for use with my FAL.  Just have to take the dremel and grind down the front tab to fit the notch in the mag well of a metric receiver.  Compare it to you metric mags and work it down slowly.  No trick to it at all.

DS Arms has 7.62mm bren mags with the catch modified to work in metric FAL's here.  They do however fit VERY tight in some brands of receivers... anything Imbel produced for example.

like has been said the inch versions have a large square lug in front, metrics need to be cut down to a smaller tab style locking lug.  thats my rifle in the pic and the bren mag is from DSA.  they do a great job converting these, best ive seen.
